Barrett farewells Diethelm

BANGKOK, 3 February 2012: Events specialist, David Barrett, said farewell to Diethelm Travel Group end of January after a 12-year stint heading the company’s events division at its Bangkok head office.
His departure is part of a restructuring of Thailand’s oldest privately-owned travel company that began in 2010 and has resulted in what the CEO, John Watson, describes as “right sizing,” company-wide.
In the events division it began with some redundancies leading up to Mr Barrett’s negotiated departure. Some of the group’s satellite offices in Thailand were closed or outsourced. Read more
A friend of TTR Weekly dies
BANGKOK, 21 June 2011 – PASSAGE: Michael Looney, 63, a travel website specialist and former IT executive for the Pacific Asia Travel Association died battling cancer, Monday.
Mr Looney headed Softech Business Solutions and handled website development for various travel-related companies, including public relations specialist ScottAsia Communications, travel publication TTR Weekly, various travel firms and websites of the Mekong Tourism Office.
A US citizen, he began his career with US airlines, including a stint with Continental and was hired by PATA’s head office in San Francisco to handle IT. He was responsible for the transfer of the IT department when the international association moved its head office to Bangkok in 1999 and worked closely with the then president and CEO, Joe McInerney. Khiri appoints top executives

BANGKOK, 18 April 2011 – Khiri Group CEO, Willem Niemeijer, announced Monday two senior appointments at Khiri DMC. They are Francois Girard named Khiri DM’s general manager and Craig Roach director of product and operations.
Both are based in Bangkok.
Girard, a French national, will report to the board of directors and will have responsibility for development, operations, finances, profitability, HR, and quality control.

BANGKOK, 15 November 2010 -Turkish Airlines has announced the appointment of Kerrar Yuksel as director for Thailand and Cambodia replacing Adnan Aykac, who moves to India as Turkish Airlines Director for New Delhi.
ICS brings back its founder
SINGAPORE, 22 October 2010 – ICS Travel Group’s CEO, Kent Wiley, has quit the company’s top post less than six months after his appointment, ITC staff confirmed Friday at ITB Asia.
He has been replaced by founder and former managing director, Annelie Moog, who returned to Bangkok from Germany to take over the helm of the regional destination marketing company.
Mr Wiley who joined ICS Travel Group as a “travel outsider” was hired to re-engineer the company and streamline its head office operations.

A French National, Mr Boudin worked as chief operations officer at AsiaRooms.com, a member of the TUI Travel PLC Group of Companies, for several years, before moving to Econhotel.com where he was project operations officer.

BANGKOK, 19 July 2010 — Thai Airways International board of directors sidelined executive vice president, commercial, Pruet Boobphakam, to an inactive post over allegations relating to a cargo aircraft deal.
Another PATA director departs
BANGKOK 15 July 2010 – Pacific Asia Travel Association and its director for board and foundation relations, Ratana Poopitakchatkaew, parted company 30 June.
She had worked with the association for 12 years joining as the first Thai staff member of PATA when it relocated its headquarters from San Francisco to Bangkok in 1998.
Relations were strained with the current management after former president and CEO Peter de Jong resigned in 2008.

BANGKOK 10 June, 2010 — A former Pacific Asia Travel Association executive, Renton de Alwis, will return to the association in a short-term advisory role to offer expert advice on membership retention, recruitment and chapter development.
Mr de Alwis, was a former chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, but best known in Sri Lanka for his social activism and community work based in a rural environment in the island’s deep south.
