Hanoi makes tourism gains

HANOI, 11 January 2012: The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism estimates the capital city attracted 1.9 million international visitors in 2011 an increase of 11% over 2010.
The four strongest markets were China supplying 309,000 visits (+19%); Japan 115,000 (+13%); Australia 109,000 visits (+28%); and South Korea 53,000 visits (+22%).
Hanoi benefited in 2010 from new international air services that linked the capital to major tourist source markets with nonstop flights. There were increases in low-cost airline services within Asia that also broadened the city’s tourism base.
Hanoi attracts 1.2m foreign visitors

HANOI, 5 January 2011– Hanoi attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors in 2010, up 18.42%t over the capital city’s 2009 performance.
Domestic tourism increased by 15.22% to 10.6 million visits according to a revised estimate given by the Hanoi Municipal Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism last week.
The city’s Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism deputy director, Truong Minh Tien, reported that during the 2010 National Tourism Year, Hanoi launched various campaigns to improve the quality of tourism products such as “Hanoians welcoming visitors” and “Green tourism year”.
Mekong Ministers meet in Hanoi

BANGKOK, 18 August 2010- Ministers from the six countries of the Greater Mekong Sub-region will meet in Hanoi later this week to develop a new 10-years plan for regional cooperation that includes tourism and improvements to transportation links.
Trams roll though old Hanoi

A pilot tram project to serve tourists visiting Hanoi’s Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake has been introduced by the People’s Committee in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem district to mark the 1,000 year anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The experimental service started last week and if successful will be a model for similar projects elsewhere in the country.
According to local media reports, Dong Xuan Joint Stock Company invested in 12 trams that have seats for eight passengers per cab.
