Start-up battle for grants

BANGKOK, 5 May 2017: Twelve start-up travel enterprises from Cambodia, the Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam will vie for a top prize of USD10,000 as they pitch their business plans to a panel of judges at the Mekong Tourism Forum, 6 June in Luang Prabang.

Four finalists will finish on the podium with the first winner taking home a prize USD10,000 and three runners up taking prizes of USD7,000 up to USD9,000.

The Mekong Innovative Startup Tourism (MIST) leads the grant programme that has the backing of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Mekong Business Initiative (MBI). Read more

US supports temple restoration

PHNOM PENH, 4 August 2015: The US Embassy in Phnom Penh says the State Department’s Cultural Heritage Centre for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ACA) has awarded USD450,000 to the World Monuments Fund for conservation of the 10th‐century temple of Phnom Bakheng.

According to the embassy’s latest media release, World Monuments Fund has received nearly USD3 million to preserve the Phnom Bakheng temple.

Cambodia is one of seven countries – including Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka – that receives support for the preservation of ancient and historic sites through the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) Large Grants Programme.
