Contest for adventure films

SEATTLE, 8 February 2017: The Adventure Travel Trade Association will showcase films inspiring adventure travel in its fourth annual Adventure in Motion short film competition, beginning this June.

The Adventure in Motion film competition (#AdventureinMotion) will be hosted on ATTA’s consumer website, Adventure.Travel, to reach a wider audience and encourage consumer viewing of the entries.

Previous entries in the Adventure in Motion competition featured adventure travel experiences, worldwide, including close encounters with wildlife and personal stories of the locals who help protect and preserve these areas that travellers enjoy. Read more

Films shoots rise in Thailand

BANGKOK, 1 March 2016: Thailand earned a record THB3,141.15 million from on-location film shoots, January to December last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department update released late last week.

During 2015, 722 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series, and music videos were filmed on location generating an estimated THB3,141.15 million in tourism related revenue compared to 631 productions and THB1,934.18 million in 2014.

The 722 productions were categorised as 329 advertising spots/ public relations, 175 documentaries, 63 feature films, 62 television programmes, 57 music videos, 16 TV series, nine game shows/ realities, eight sensitive content TV programme and three others not categorised. Read more

BANGKOK, 10 November 2015: Thailand earned a record THB2,676.67 million from on-location film shoots, January to October this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department update released Monday.

For the first 10 months of the year, 585 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series and music videos were filmed on location generating THB2,676.67 million in tourism related revenue compared to 631 productions and THB1,934.18 million during the same period last year.

The 585 productions were categorised as 270 advertising spots/public relations, 140 documentaries, 52 featured films, 47 music videos, 46 television programmes, 14 TV series, nine game show/reality, five Sensitive content TV programme and two from others.

BANGKOK, 15 May 2015: Thailand earned a record THB1,467.31 million from on-location film shoots, January to April this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department update released Thursday.

For the first four months of the year, 260 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series, and music videos were filmed on location generating THB1,467.31 million in tourism related revenue compared to 220 productions and THB750.89 million during the same period last year.

The 260 productions were categorised as 61 documentaries, 129 advertising spots, 19 television programmes, 18 music videos and 33 films.

Macau host film awards

MACAU, 26 March 2015: Chinese cinema’s leading lights dominated the winners’ podium at the star-studded Asian Film Awards on Wednesday, with local stars scooping three of the four top prizes in the glitzy gambling hub of Macau.

“The Golden Era”, a biopic of an acclaimed Chinese writer directed by Hong Kong’s Ann Hui, earned her the Best Director award, while the Best Movie gong went to “Blind Massage” from controversial director Lou Ye, a story based on the little-known industry in China that featured blind amateur actors.

Continuing China’s run of luck, the prize for Best Actor went to rising local star Liao Fan, who bagged the award for his role in cop thriller “Black Coal, Thin Ice”.

More films shot in Thailand

BANGKOK, 17 March 2015: Thailand earned a record THB648.65 million from on-location film shoots, January to February, this year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Film Office Department’s latest update released last week.

For the first two months of the year, 139 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series and music videos were filmed on location generating THB648.65 million in tourism related revenue compared to 108 productions and THB581.43 million during the same period last year.

The 139 productions were categorised as 23 documentaries, 78 advertising spots, 12 television programmes, eight music videos and 18 films.

Filming Thailand brings in cash

BANGKOK, 22 January 2015: Thailand earned a record THB1,934.82 million from on-location film shoots, January to December 2014, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Thailand Film Office Department update released Wednesday.

For the entire year, 631 documentaries, advertising slots, TV series, and music videos were filmed on location generating THB1,934.82 million in tourism related revenue compared to 717 productions and THB2,173.35 million in 2013.

The 631 productions were categorised as 159 documentaries, 294 advertising spots, 86 television programmes, 44 music videos and 48 films.
