Dubai splashes out on Expo

DUBA, 13 December 2017: Dubai has adopted its 2018 budget foreseeing expenditure of 56.6 million dirhams (around USD15.5 billion), a 19.5% increase over last year, as it prepares to host Expo 2020.

But the 2018 budget of Dubai, one of seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates, also forecasts a deficit of USD1.7 billion — the highest since the 2009 financial crisis, a government statement said.

“Dubai’s commitment to Expo excellence, and to UAE’s leading status on the international scene has led to approving a budget with an AED 6.2 billion deficit,” Abdulrahman Saleh Al Saleh, who heads Dubai’s government finance department, said. Read more

Wi-Fi Now meets in Bangkok

AARHUS, Denmark, 22 November 2017 Wi-Fi industry leaders are converging in Bangkok for Wi-Fi NOW – the world’s premier Wi-Fi industry conference and expo, 28 to 30 November.

The event will be hosted at Amari Watergate Hotel in downtown Bangkok.

Among the companies speaking at the Bangkok event will be Google, Reliance Jio Infocomm of India, Wi2 of Japan, Thailand’s own CAT Telecom, Qualcomm, Ruckus Wireless, Mojo Networks, Cambium Networks and local Wi-Fi service and solution providers. Read more

Chinese tap lucrative Halal market

DUBAI, 21 September 2017: Standing behind her stall at a Dubai exhibition centre, Dai Dong He offered expo visitors what looked like carefully wrapped biscuits or chocolates.

“This is dry beef, beef snacks,” said Dai, general manager of Anhui Central Asia Food Co., one of eight Chinese firms from Anhui Province displaying products at Halal Expo Dubai 2017.

Dubai is hosting the show for the ninth year running, with the Gulf emirate positioning itself as a major hub for the halal industry, a booming USD3 trillion market for goods and services that are permissible under Islamic law. Read more

CLMV minsters create blueprint

HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2017: Four Mekong Region countries, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam attracted 22 million visits, last year, leaders of the CLMV tourism group reported on the sidelines of the International Travel Expo last Friday.

They were attending the 4th Meeting of Cambodia – Laos – Myanmar- Vietnam (CLMV) Tourism Ministers, held during ITE Ho Chi Minh City and concluded tourism was major driver for their economies.

The meeting was chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien. Read more

ITE gains stature in regional market

HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2017: ITE-HCMC has affirmed its position as one of the region’s leading travel trade shows that will draw more tourists to visit Vietnam.

Speaking at the Gala Dinner, at ITE late last week, Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, said the event was recognised as a leading professional forum for tourism management agencies, tourism enterprises at home and overseas to meet, exchange and conduct business discussions.

China attracts ASEAN interest

GUANGZHOU, China, 5 September 2017: The China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry Expo 2017 (CITIE) will open 8 September at the China Import and Export Fair Complex, here in Guangzhou.

By the time the expo closes, 10 September, the organisers promise business transactions will have been concluded that will tap China’s vast outbound travel market particular for Asian destinations.

Show organisers confirmed more than 4,500 booths have booked 90,000 m2 of exhibition space presenting travel content from 55 countries and 22 Chinese provinces, and autonomous regions. Read more

Astana’s expo gauges response

ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN, 14 July 2017: One month after EXPO 2017 “Future Energy” opened in Astana the event welcomed 921,293 visitors, according to a report by the organisers.

The expo has attracted participation from 115 countries and 22 international organisations.

Of the 921,293 people who visited the expo, about 14% were foreigners. Exhibition tickets had been sold on online in 55 countries. Read more

13th Travel Expo in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, 13 July 2017: The 13th edition of International Travel Expo (ITE) Ho Chi Minh City 2017 will take place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Centre 7 to 9 September.

Themed ‘Your Gateway to Tourism in Asia’, the event will offer international and regional buyers, suppliers, trade professionals, tourism and travel organisations opportunities to meet and exchange information and network.

Local media quoted Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism director, Bui Ta Hoang Vu, saying ITE HCM City 2017 expects a 20% increase in international travel agencies. Read more

Energy expo lacks visitors

ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN, 22 June 2017: Kazakhstan sought a place in the sun when it bid to host a glitzy international energy expo, but a spat over visitor numbers has strengthened criticism that the multi-billion dollar showpiece was money thrown to the wind.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Spain’s King Felipe VI were among the dignitaries taking in the festive opening 9 June of the Future Energy expo in the Central Asian country’s futuristic new capital of Astana.

Dancers in golden bodysuits hoisted imitation solar panels skywards, spacemen swung on ropes between suspended models of the planets and Kazakh children sketched a “city of the future” on a giant screen to impress the VIPs. Read more

Expo 2020 Dubai plans unfold

ABU DHABI, UAE, 4 April 2017: Alpin Limited has been appointed the commissioning authority for the 2020 World Expo, which will take place in Dubai.

Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to attract 180 nations and 25 million visitors, across a six-month period.
