Kamu lodge sells eco package

LUANG PRABANG, 22 March 2011 – A eco-style lodge in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR, has launched a package that features a boat trip to explore Mekong River culture and a stay in the world heritage town.
Kamu Lodge is selling its latest boat-and-lodge package, released last week, with prices starting at US$237 per person, based on twin-share full-board occupancy at the lodge, river and shore excursions, as well as guide fees.
The two-day programme starts in Luang Prabang with a boat trip that features four cultural and traditional attractions; Dan Village, Doun Khoune, Pak Ou Caves and a visit to a Hmong and Kamu village.
Tourism endangers Great Wall
BADALING, 5 October 2010 – Empty gin and whisky bottles, crumpled beer cans and tattered food boxes are piled up after a rave in China — perhaps not so unusual, except that the garbage is on the fabled Great Wall.
Colombian tourist Francisco Garcia was in a sad mood after witnessing the garbage from a full-moon techno party, which attracted several hundred foreigners to one of the sections of the wall at Badaling, about 60 km from Beijing.

NEW DELHI, 29 September 2010 – A full-page advertisement of the Tourism Ministry published on Monday in leading newspapers came under attack from India’s Environment Minister, Jairam Ramesh, who objected to an illustration of an African-origin elephant instead of the native Indian species, the Economic Times reported.
Sources in the ministry said Mr Ramesh wrote to Tourism Minister, Selja Kumari, to register his protest against what he called a “bloomer”.

PHUKET, September 14, 2010 – Award-winning five-star Phuket resort, Indigo Pearl, has launched its first ‘eco-tour’ package, inviting guests to ‘give back to the community’ during their next vacation.
Following the launch of the eco-package for ‘World Coastal Clean’ 25 September, the promotion will extend to October 31 for stays of at least three nights.
Taking place from 24 to 26th September, the inaugural weekend coincides with the “World Coastal Clean Up” day, scheduled in Phuket at Nai Yang beach, 25 September.

BANGKOK, 2 September 2010 – Will the Tourism Authority of Thailand governor leave his car at home for day and take public transport to work?
Well along with Bangkok City officials, he is pushing for a car-free day in the city along with other measures to make the city a little more greener for tourists.
Bangkok City officials joined the Tourism Authority of Thailand, last Tuesday, to host a travel trade seminar aimed at building awareness on environment protection and ecotourism.
TAT adds more green books

Bangkok 16 June, 2010 – Tourism Authority of Thailand will intensify its green promotions by launching a 50-green destinations guidebook targeting international tourists that will be distributed this September.
As a part of the green initiative, the guidebook on 50 green destinations will include attractions, activities and green accommodation. The book will be published in English. The idea is to encourage tourists, government agencies, private sector companies and environmental institutes to give preference to sustainable tourism destinations.

Elephant camps to be graded

Thailand’s Office of Tourism Development will establish a standardisation criteria for elephant camps in the hope it will improve the country’s image.
Camps will be rated by a score based on indicators that have been set out by OTD.
Creating standard guidelines will run in tandem with efforts to build an ecotourism experience at elephant camps, as well as clean up procedures to prevent mistreatment. The camps will also be used as stations to receive “street-elephants” that roam Bangkok.
World conference falls short of expectations

World Ecotourism Conference turns into a one-off venture for Lao hosts.
Laos hosted its first world ecotourism conference, last week, but its success was muted by a low turnout of buyers and media.
Delegates lists handed out at the end of the conference in Vientiane, 15 to 17 July, indicated that it was attended by mostly government officials, consultants, academics and representatives of aid agencies working in Laos as well as international associations like Pata.
