Joon joy for millenials

PARIS, 26 September 2017: Air France late last week unveiled a new lower-cost subsidiary called Joon that will specifically target well-travelled millenials.

A new medium-haul service will begin operating from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris later this year, with long-haul flights to follow in summer 2018.

The French carrier unveiled details of its new service after resolving a lengthy dispute between the management and pilots over the establishment of the subsidiary. Read more

BANGKOK, 29 June 2017: For the first time, the annual Visa Thailand Grand Sale goes digital as the flagship inbound programme gets a mobile-first revamp.

Visa Thailand Grand Sale 2017 was officially launched earlier this month by Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Visa country manager, Thailand Suripong Tantiyanon and Tourism Authority of Thailand deputy governor for tourism products and business Noppadon Pakprot.

Tough times for travel agents

BANGKOK, 15 May 2017: The monthly Association of Thai Travel Agents data on travellers booked with its member companies should sound a warning to travel agency owners that all is not well with their business model.

Declines are showing up in the figures counted at Bangkok’s two gateway airports based on clients booked on member company tours. Yet, the Ministry of Tourism’s month figures show a healthy growth in travel to the country even if you take out the dubious overland arrivals that mix tourists and border traders. Read more

TCEB outlines 2017 plan

BANGKOK, 30 December 2016: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau outlines strategies and action plans to boost events hosted in Thailand next year.

TCEB president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, said the plan will focus on integration of public and private partnerships at the national and international level to help create new MICE events, while attracting high quality MICE events.

To generate revenue, the bureau will target Asia, Europe, the Americas and Oceania markets. Read more

DOHA, 23 November 2016: Qatar Airways has officially launched digital membership for its Privilege Club members.

It will provide a more convenient option for travellers to redeem points no matter where they are.

Available to all Privilege Club membership tiers – Burgundy, Silver, Gold and Platinum – the new digital membership provides travellers with the same level of service as the physical card, but uses their smart phones or tablets. Read more

Mega digital event in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 1 April 2016: Singapore hosts one of the largest digital commerce events for Asia, 20 to 21 April, with an estimated attendance exceeding 8,000.

Hosted at Suntec Singapore Convention Centre, the mega event delivers four meeting and exhibition components: E-Commerce Show Asia, Cards & Payments Asia, Retail Technology Show Asia and Future Bank Asia.
