Rent-a-bike arrives in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 31 August 2017: A pedal bike sharing platform ‘Mobike’ announced, this week, it will enter the Thai market through a partnership with two corporations and a university.

Claiming to be the world’s first and largest smart bike-sharing platform, the group confirmed its Thai  partners were mobile service Advanced Info Service, retail giant Central Pattana Group and Kasetsart University.

They signed a memoranda of understanding to launch the service that will tap  the specialities of the three partners; mobile, retail and educational communities. Read more

Buy into a race experience

CHIANG MAI, 8 August 2017: International cycle tour operator, SpiceRoads Cycling, is inviting race enthusiasts to ride with its 2017 Master Tour of Chiang Mai cycle race team.

The Masters Tour of Chiang Mai is an annual road race event staged in Thailand’s northern capital and often tagged by guidebooks as the “Rose of the North.”

Bike on board for free

BANGKOK, 3 May 2017: Bangkok Airways is offering passengers free cycle transport, across its network until 31 March next year.

It is seen as a major incentive for touring and leisure cyclists who will need a baggage allowance of around 20 kg including their bike.

Bangkok Airways is supporting sports tourism this year mainly marathons, but it is also promoting triathlons and cycle races. Read more

LENS LINES: Cyclists race at Chatrium

CHANTHABURI, 21 March 2017: Chatrium Golf Resort Soi Dao Chanthaburi hosted the  Thailand Cycling Championship 2017, 10 to 12 March, in the resort’s spacious 1,580 acre parkland.

The three-day event drew competitors and spectators from around the country to vie for the Thailand Cycling Championship 2017 crown.

Grasshopper River Kwai trip

BANGKOK, 15 February 2017: Grasshopper Adventures will organise a four-day bicycle trip, 23 to 26 April, to the River Kwai in west Thailand linked  to ceremonies for ANZAC Day.

The trip includes attendance at the special ANZAC Day dawn service in Hell Fire Pass and  mid-morning wreath laying ceremonies in the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery on 25 April to commemorate those who served during World Wars I and II.

“The bike riders join in honouring those who gave their lives in the service of their country and who suffered the hardships of Japanese prisoner of war camps to build the Death Railway,” said Grasshopper Adventures CEO, Adam Platt-Hepworth. Read more

Vietnam starts rent-a-bike

CAN THO, 9 February 2017: Can Tho’s Department of Transport says the city will provide a cycle rental services on a pilot basis for visitors.

The trial run will continue to the end of the year when an evaluation of the project will take place.

Local media quoted the department deputy director, Le Tien Dung, saying the rentals will be located at Luu Huu Phuoc, Ninh Kieu and Song Hau parks and Cai Khe Islet, popular spots for both domestic and international travellers. Read more

TAT: Drive to add family travel attractions

PATTAYA, 29 July 2016: A 40-km cycle route around Pattaya to the resort’s Big Buddha hill will be promoted as a distinctive travel experience in the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s promotional activities for the east coast resort.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya office director, Suladda Sarutilavan, said the agency would focus considerable efforts on marketing Pattaya to the Thai domestic travel market and introducing a new 40-km bike route would be a crucial element in the campaign.

For international visitors the replantation of mangrove trees in the Siricharoenwat Forest Project was cited as a strong selling point. Read more

Northeast Thailand a sporting hub?

BANGKOK, 28 October 2015: The Tourism Authority of Thailand is hosting a ‘Ride to Khong’s Legendary’ long-distance biking competition along a scenic route covering four provinces in Thailand’s Northeast region.

The competition runs from 29 October to 1 November, and is organised by TAT to promote the Northeast as a sports and tourism destination as the gateway to the Mekong countries.

Minister of Tourism and Sports, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said: “Ride to Khong’s Legendary biking competition will mark a new era of tourism for Thailand’s Northeast.”
