Emirates and flydubai connects the dots

SINGAPORE 3 October 2017: Emirates announced, Monday, that it would expand its network to 29 flydubai destinations across three continents as part of a wider partner agreement between the two airlines.

The latest codeshares will offer easier access to more destinations with the advantage of connecting baggage to the final destination.

Passengers can now book travel through to these 29 destinations, commencing 29 October on Emirates.com, through the Emirates Contact Centres, or travel agents. It involves a change of plane to flydubai at the Dubai hub.  Read more

Vietjet inks partnership with JAL

BANGKOK, 27 July 2017: Japan Airlines and Vietjet signed a formal partnership agreement, earlier this week, starting with codeshare flights and extending to other areas impacting on passenger services.

The two airlines concluded an agreement after discussions on expanding their networks to respond to growing travel demand between the two countries.

As a first step, JAL and Vietjet agreed to start  codeshare cooperation for all flights between Japan and Vietnam as well as JAL’s domestic flights, and Vietjet’s domestic flights. Read more

Emirates and flydubai join forces

DUBAI, UAE, 24 July 2017: Emirates and flydubai have unveiled an extensive partnership, which will see the two Dubai-based airlines join forces to offer more travel options.

Both airlines will continue to be managed independently, but will leverage each other’s network to scale up their operations and accelerate growth.

The partnership goes beyond codeshares to include integrated networks with coordinated scheduling. The new model will give flydubai customers  connectivity to Emirates’ worldwide destinations spanning six continents. For Emirates’ customers, it opens up flydubai’s regional network. Read more

Middle East airlines slam AA

DOHA, 19 July 2017: Qatar Airways and Abu Dhabi’s Etihad said late last week they were disappointed with an American Airlines decision to end its codeshare relationships with them as part of its push against government subsidies of Middle East carriers.

Earlier in the week, American notified both carriers of its decision to no longer share flights with them over what it described as “illegal subsidies”.

“We are disappointed,” Akbar al-Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, said in response to the announcement. Read more

AA ends Qatar codeshare

DOHA, 17 July 2017: Qatar Airways said late last week it was “disappointed” with an American Airlines decision to end its codeshare relationship with the Doha-based carrier as part of its push against government subsidies of Middle Eastern carriers.

But Qatar Airways’ chief executive, Akbar al-Baker, said the decision would not lead to his airline reducing services to the United States.

“We are disappointed,” Baker told reporters in Doha. Read more

MAI codeshare adds Colombo

YANGON, 8 June 2017: Myanmar Airways International and SriLankan Airlines have entered into a codeshare deal that combines one-stop flights Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

The codeshare flights were launched 1 June.

Myanmar Airways International offers flights to Bangkok and Singapore that connect seamlessly with flights operated by SriLankan Airlines from the two major hubs to Colombo the capital of Sri Lanka. Read more

BANGKOK, 11 April 2017: Thailand’s national airline, Thai Airways International and the country’s leading privately owned airline, Bangkok Airways, signed a comprehensive codeshare agreement Monday for flights on 10 domestic and four international routes.

THAI’s acting president Usanee Sangsingkeo and President Bangkok Airways president, Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth signed the agreement at a ceremony held at THAI head office. Read more

American Airlines buy China stake

SHANGHAI, 29 March 2017: American Airlines on Tuesday confirmed it will purchase USD200 million in China Southern Airlines stock, the first step in a planned “long-term relationship” between two of the world’s biggest carriers.

American Airlines, the world’s largest by scheduled passengers carried, will buy 8.83% of the Hong Kong-listed shares of China Southern, which is fourth globally and the biggest in Asia.

The two airlines said the tie-up would allow American to tap into China’s rapidly growing air travel market, while boosting China Southern’s ambitions of raising its global profile, including in the world-leading US market. Read more

Thai Smile rethinks Cebu

BANGKOK, 23 March 2017: Thai Smile has put on hold its planned introduction of a daily service to Cebu in the Philippines.

According to the airline’s latest flight updates, the airline was scheduled to start the service 1 May.

Details showed the service had a TG flight four digit designator, TG 2626, on the Bangkok-Cebu run, which indicated the service would have been a codeshare with parent airline Thai Airways International. Read more
