CEO quits Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 October 207: Malaysia Airlines CEO quit Tuesday to take a job at Ryanair, a fresh blow to the troubled Malaysian carrier which is still struggling to recover from twin disasters in 2014.

Peter Bellew has been appointed chief operations officer at the Irish airline, where he used to work, following a recent crisis that led to the cancellation of thousands of flights.

He was the third chief executive of Malaysia Airlines since 2014, when the company was plunged into crisis by the disappearance of flight MH370 and the downing of MH17 over Ukraine. Read more

DTG rumour mill grinds to a halt

BANGKOK, 2 October 2017: Tourasia’s founder and CEO, Stephen Roemer, who was recently named the new CEO of Diethelm Travel Group following a tourasia and DTG merger, officially started work 1 October.

Asked to clarify some of his priorities in email questions, he said: “ It goes without saying that I will come up with a business strategy and a clear positioning. This is what I am working on with the teams of Diethelm and All Asia Exclusive (AAE) at this moment.”

DTG and tourasia jointly announced the merger in late August and by 18 September former CEO, Lisa Fitzell, who had headed the tour company for two and half years left the Bangkok office. Read more

JacTravel CEO calls it a day

LONDON, 9 August 2017: JacTravel’s CEO, Terry Williamson, has announced that he will be leaving JacTravel following the completion of the sale of the company to Webjet.

The sale is scheduled to be completed officially at the end of this month.

Webjet Limited announce, 2 August, that it had entered into an agreement to acquire JacTravel. Read more

Munoz not heading for UA chair

NEW YORK, 24 April 2017: United Airlines said Friday it no longer plans to name chief executive Oscar Munoz chairman as it revised its compensation programme following an uproar over its treatment of a passenger.

Munoz and the airline were slammed with heavy criticism after a passenger was violently dragged off a United flight earlier this month in an incident that sparked global outrage.

Under the previous plan, Munoz had been slated to assume the chairman’s role in 2018. But the company amended its contract with Munoz to remove that provision. Read more

Sabre names CEO

SINGAPORE, 20 December 2016: Sabre Corporation has appointed Sean Menke as president, CEO and a member of Sabre’s board, effective 31 December.

Menke will succeed Tom Klein, who has served as president, CEO and board member since 2013.

Menke joined Sabre in October 2015 and currently serves as executive vice president of Sabre and president of Sabre Travel Network, Sabre’s largest line of business. Read more

Kuoni hires new CEO

ZURICH, 9 December 2016: Reto Wilhelm will take over operational management as CEO of Kuoni Global Travel Services (GTS) 1 March 2017.

Under his leadership, GTS’s ongoing reorientation as an independent company and the expansion of its activities in attractive market segments will continue.

GTS Advisory Board chairman, Walter Gehl, will continue to manage GTS on an interim basis until March 2017. Read more
