Clock winds back to river life

BANGKOK, 26 July 2017: The upcoming Bangkok River Fair: From Strangers to Neighbours, hosted 5 August, at Pipit Banglamphu, Phra Sumen Road, Bangkok, gains the promotional spotlight in the latest Tourism Authority of Thailand events update.

The fair takes visitors and residents back in time to the era when Bangkok’s city life was lived out on the Chao Phraya River and nearby canals rather than on the congested highways and streets we see today.

Just a few pockets of canal life and communities have survived and the TAT promotion encourages visitors to catch the nostalgic mood for the day-long fair. Read more

HCMC focuses on waterway tourism

HO CHI MINH CITY, 16 June 2017: Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities will strengthen the city’s waterway tourism through a business plan, 2017 to 2020,  in an effort to offer more travel options for visitors.

Local media reported that at least seven new waterway tourism programmes would be implemented on the Sai Gon, Dong Nai, Nha Be, Soai Rap and Long Tau rivers and inner canals.

Waterway tourism in the city is expected to attract 450,000 tourists by 2018 increasing 15% annually over the next three years, it said. Read more
