Bring home a friend and win

MANILA, 25 September 2017: – The Philippines Department of Tourism launched its “Bring-Home-A-Friend” (BHAF) campaign, last week, to encourage travellers to visit the country over a six-month period starting next month and ending in April 2018.

“We would like tourism to close the year strongly for the industry in terms of visitor arrivals and carry the momentum into the coming year,” said DOT Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo.

Teo decided to revive the BHAF programme implemented in 1994 by DOT under former Secretary Mina Gabor to encourage Filipinos to invite their foreign friends to  visit the Philippines over Christmas. Read more

Clean up Thai beaches

Thailand identified its cleanest beaches and not a single one was a popular beach destination rated by the likes of TripAdvisor.

The Pollution Control Department bases its top 10 list on a scorecard of strict environmental checks of land and sea conditions at all of the country’s beaches.

Predictably, the top beaches were in national parks protected from consumer activities such as hotel and tourism developments.  Some of them close for six months to allow the sensitive environment to recover. Read more

TG opens women only counter

BANGKOK, 9 August 2017: Recognising women are high-spend travellers in their own right, Thai Airways International launched an initiative to support the Women’s Journey Thailand campaign 2017.

THAI is backing the month-long campaign to emphasis female travel with a special counter decked out in a ‘pink lady’ theme.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand relaunched the campaign following the success of its 2016 campaign that offered special privileges for female travellers.   Read more

Haze haunts the North

CHIANG MAI, 29 March 2017: The annual smog, or smoke haze, is turning into a major deterrent persuading travellers to scratch North Thailand off their travel plans, according to the Economics Research and Agricultural Forecasting Centre (Maejo Poll).

Released last week, the research focused on 1,015 Thai travellers who had visited Chiang Mai during 20 February to 5 March this year.

72.88% of interviewees said they had experience severe haze, while 27.12% said they had not been aware of it when visiting Chiang Mai. Read more

ASEAN rolls out 50th campaign tours

SINGAPORE, 10 November 2016: Fifty specially chosen cross border travel products will help to attract more visitors to Southeast Asia during the 50th anniversary  celebrations of ASEAN’s founding.

The VISIT ASEAN@50 Golden Celebration 2017 campaign focuses on 50 cross-border travel experiences in Southeast Asia that will showcase the region’s rich diversity.

This will contribute to raising international tourist arrivals to the region from 109 million in 2015 to 121 million by 2017, officials say. Read more

Malaysia on a winning streak

BERLIN, 10 March 2015: Malaysia took top honours at the Golden City Gate Awards during the ITB Trade Show last week.

The awards recognises the best film, print and multi-media promotions.

The winning entry was Tourism Malaysia’s advertisement that featured the country’s age-old wayang kulit theatre tradition. It took first prize in the print category of the award.

Receiving the award was Dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, director general of Tourism Malaysia who said: “We’re very happy to receive this award. It’s a wonderful recognition for the promotional work we are doing here, for the Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 campaign, and for Malaysia. It will open up the eyes of the world to the rich culture and heritage we have in Malaysia.”

TCEB boosts United campaign

BANGKOK, 2 March 2015: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau launches the Thailand’s MICE United II programme to boost international visitors and revenue this year.

Speaking at the campaign’s launch, last Friday, TCEB president Nopparat Maythaveekulchai said the campaign is based on a partnership with various agencies in Thailand that was established in 2014.

The four  founding members were Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tourism Authority of Thailand, THAI Airways International  and Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association.

Thai poll gives Thainess thumbs up

BANGKOK, 21 January 2015: Thais believe the country’s 2015 Discover Thainess campaign is on target and could help to boost the country tourism this year, according to a recent survey by Rajabhat Suan Dusit University.

Suan Dusit Poll questioned 1,392 Thais as part of a survey to determine perceptions of the 2015 Discover Thainess campaign, 14 to 17 January, nationwide.

The results showed that 79.31% of those interviewed said the Discover Thainess 2015 campaign and its inauguration event at Lumpini Park (14 to 18 January) would boost the country tourism and economy.
