BANGKOK, 3 May 2017: The welcome mat for extreme budget travellers is wearing thin in Thailand, according to a VoiceTV report based on social media comments.

The local channel claims Thais are reacting strongly to the increase in Western tourists who come to Thailand, either to beg, or barter their way around the country.

VoiceTV posted a minute-long video about what they called a new trend in tourism. It is actually a remake of the ‘dollar a day’ trend of the 1970s when travellers claimed bragging rights if they could show how they travelled on a sub-dollar daily budget. In those days it usually incurred a few nights on the house in a rural temple to live within the dollar budget. Read more

ITB: Faster networking takes shape

BERLIN, 31 January 2017: ITB Berlin is organising two speed dating events, 9 March, that will enable buyers as well as bloggers to contact exhibitors, worldwide, in the shortest possible time.

In the morning,  9 March, the members of the ITB Buyers Circle can meet national and international exhibitors at ITB’s so-called Speed Networking event.

In the afternoon, at the ITB Blogger Speed Dating event, bloggers can make use of eight-minute time slots to talk to representatives at the table-top session. The new ITB matchmaking tool is the latest effort to increase communications and networking during ITB Berlin to add value for exhibitors. Read more

Star Alliance: Give someone the world

FRANKFURT, 4 October 2016: Star Alliance is offering two round-the-world tickets for a good cause and is inviting members of the public to decide which of the six shortlisted nominees should be selected to travel the world with a companion.

Each nominee was put forward by one of the travel bloggers who recently completed their own Round-the World-trip with Star Alliance.

With a brief to select an individual or charity “deserving” of a Round-the-World trip, the bloggers researched and proposed individuals who had impressed them, and could  serve as a source of inspiration to others. Read more

84 new Thailand stories

BANGKOK 15 August, 2016: Eighty four international bloggers and photographers were treated to a hosted holiday by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in the belief it would gain 84 “unique perspectives” on the Thailand travel experience.

They toured popular tourist destinations and some Royal Projects as part of the TAT’s Women’s Journey Thailand campaign, which runs throughout the month of August.

Heavy weight bloggers claimed in excess of a million readers each; mainly online followers seeking travel know-how and tips for their next holiday. Read more

AirAsia starts travel portal

BANGKOK, 12 July 2016: AirAsia has launched new tourism portal website AirMosphere.net  for passengers to share travel information.

Thai AirAsia’s commercial director, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said social media has become an integral part of everyday life, especially in the realm of travel with gurus and bloggers as well as travellers sharing tips they collect on their journeys.

“Such information inspires even more travel and has prompted the airline to create its own channel for travellers to share their travel information and experience.” Read more

Bloggers meet in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 19 October 2015: The first ever first Travel Blog Exchange in Asia, hosted by Thailand, 15 to 17 October, 2015, reaffirmed the country’s readiness to host major events.

Tourism Authority of Thailand officials told international bloggers, attending a press conference during the event, that tourism had fully recovered after the 17 August Erawan Shrine bomb attack.

Tourism bookings dropped by just over 1 million in the wake of the deadly attack that killed 20 people, mostly tourists.

TAT backs bloggers events

Bangkok, 13 October 2015: More than 600 bloggers and online writers, worldwide, are due to visit Thailand for the Travel Blog Exchange Asia (TBEX Asia 15 to 17 October, 2015).

The event will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC) in Bangkok.

TBEX Asia 2015 is being jointly supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
