B&B start up in Kayin

KAYIN STATE, 29 July 2015: Kayin State will be the first state to officially establish bed and breakfast accommodation in Myanmar even before nation-wide licensing is in place for guest houses .

The state government has approved two of seven applications to open a B&B at Thandaunggyi, a colonial-era hill station in northern Kayin State about a 90-minute drive east of Taungoo.

Myanmar Times quoted Kayin State Minister for Planning and Economy, U Naing Min Soe Thein, saying the regional government had written to Nay Pyi Taw requesting permission to open two B&Bs.

Myanmar encourages B&Bs

YANGON, 23 July 2015: Bed and breakfast establishments could soon open in the remotest parts of the country, once the draft tourism law has been passed.

One of the first could be in Thandaung Gyi, a town in northern Kayin State until recently off-limits to tourists.

Tourism ministry’s department chief in Hpa-an, Kayin State, U Win Kyaw, told Myanmar Times that would-be operators were already lining up to offer B&B accommodation.
