TCEB passes on its standard to ASEAN

BANGKOK, 1 February 2017: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau says all 10 ASEAN ministers have endorsed the Thailand MICE Venue Standard as the model to adopt across the 10-nation region.

TCEB president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, said TCEB would take the lead role to finalise the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard based largely on features in Thailand’s own venue standard.

“The vote of confidence from the ASEAN minsters confirmed the ASEAN MICE Venue Standard, will be based on the framework of the Thailand MICE Venue Standard,” he said. Read more

SINGAPORE, 5 January 2017: ASEAN’s travel community will celebrate the 50 anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations during the up coming ASEAN Travel Mart that opens in Singapore, 18 January.

To kick-off the milestone year, Singapore is hosting the 36th ASEAN Tourism Forum, 18 to 20 January.

Despite the importance of the event, Singapore has virtually ended the long tradition of hosting international media. Read more

Quang Ninh will host ATF 2019

QUANG NINH, 9 November 2019: Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh will host the ASEAN Tourism Forum in 2019.

Local media reported the annual ASEAN Tourism Forum will take place in mid-January 2019, attracting up to 2,000 delegates, including tourism ministers, leaders of national travel agencies, hotels, and tourism companies.

ATF in 2017 will be held in Singapore when ASEAN celebrates 50th year anniversary by launching a new marketing campaign. Read more

Early plans for ATF2019

HANOI, 21 June 2016: Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has presented a detailed plan and budget to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc for the hosting of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2019.

ATF is hosted by each of the 10-member nations of ASEAN on a rotating, alphabetical sequence.  Singapore is the host for 2017 and Thailand follows in 2018.

The country’s Prime Minister will make the final ruling on where the event takes place after the MCST suggested Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang as possible venues. Read more

Nay Pyi Taw hotels face crisis

NAY PYI TAW, 30 January 2015: When the ASEAN Tourism Forum closed, Thursday evening, the shutters also lowered on the capital’s 60 hotels.

It is virtually ground zero from here on after two years of getting by on revenue earned mainly from government-led events and ASEAN related conferences during Myanmar’s chairmanship that ended this month.

Commenting on the capital’s prospects in tourism, Myanmar Tourism Federation vice chairman, Maung Maung Swe told TTR Weekly the situation was critical for hotels.

“We will present recommendations to the government on ways to boost arrivals to the capital and support the hotel industry,” the vice president said.

China law dents Singapore tourism

NAY PYI TAW, 29 January 2015: Singapore suffered a massive  26% drop in Chinese tourist arrivals, January to November 2014, that caused an overall 3.4% decline in tourism to the country.

The China decline was blamed on rules introduced by China to set standards for outbound tours and end illegal commissions according to Singapore Tourism Board executive director communications and industry marketing, Oliver Chong.

“The Chinese law hit everyone hard, the law was not a bad thing in itself,” Chong commented during a media briefing. “The tourism receipts were steady, even if arrivals were down.”

Malaysia launches MyFest 2015

NAY PYI TAW, 29 January 2015: Following on from its successful Visit Malaysia Year 2014 campaign, Malaysia launched MyFest 2015, Wednesday, at the ASEAN Tourism Forum.

Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board director general, Dato Mirza Mohammad Taiyab,  announced details of the campaign during an ATF media briefing.

“Now we move forward with MyFest,” he said. “ This festival year brings local councils and states together to identify events. MyFest gives them a boost. It provides information to front-line travel sellers and creates awareness and renewal.”

Thainess unveiled at ATF

BANGKOK, 29 January, 2015 – The new national tourism-promotion campaign “2015 Discover Thainess” was unveiled for the ASEAN countries, Tuesday, during the 34th edition of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2015, between 22-29 January, 2015, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

ASEAN countries are expected to be among the top sources of visitor arrivals in 2015 as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) comes into force end of this year. will Also there is valuable travel movements to Thailand through the border-crossings with Malaysia, Myanmar, Lao PDR. and Cambodia for both trade and tourism.

The “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign highlights the country’s famed hospitality, respect for others and laid-back charm even it the country’s urban destinations.

Seamless ASEAN travel by 2020?

NAY PYI TAW, 27 January 2015: ASEAN’s  promised seamless travel is not just around the corner, Philippines’ secretary tourism, Ramon Jimenez, told the opening press conference at the ASEAN Tourism Forum, Monday.

He was responding to a question from TTR Weekly on news reports from Davos, Switzerland, over the weekend, that suggested ASEAN’s era of seamless travel would not start until 2020.

“Five years is not al long time,” he told a packed press conference at the capital’s convention centre. “Does tourism need to move so fast?”

Historic ATF opens in Myanmar

SINGAPORE, 22 January 2015: The 34th edition of ASEAN Tourism Forum kicked off  earlier today at the Myanmar International Convention Centre in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, with the 41st Meeting of the ASEAN National Tourism Organisations.

Some 300 delegates including tourism ministers and NTO officials joined the opening event of the week-long ATF which is being held in Myanmar for the first time.

Over the next few days, some 2,000 delegates from over 50 countries will gather in Nay Pyi Taw for ATF 2015.
