BEIJING, 2 March 2017: China’s business travel spend reached USD290 billion in 2016, second only to the US according to a report, based on 2016 market data from Ctrip Corporate Travel and Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), the world’s largest business travel organisation.
The report’s findings were highlighted at the 2017 Asia-Pacific Corporate Travel Summit, hosted by Ctrip Corporate Travel, in Beijing last week.
“As the market grows, the need for upgrading the industry is also increasing. In addition to the basic demand for cost savings through business travel management, enterprise customers currently hope to improve management efficiency through an effective and integrated business travel management system,” said Ctrip Corporate Travel CEO Fang Jiqin in his presentation at the summit. KUALA LUMPUR, 18 January 2017: BookDoc announced, Wednesday, its latest content partnership with the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor.

BANGKOK, 22 September 2016: Singapore-based Talisman Telecom is joint venturing with two Bangkok-registered media companies, Capital TV and Destination Thailand News Co Ltd, to deliver the first mobile App offering comprehensive travel content on Thailand.
The Destination Thailand App was launched, Tuesday, in Bangkok, at an event attended by the joint venture’s three CEOs; Rane Grady of Capital TV, Stephen Morton of Destination Thailand News and Ananda Rao of Talisman Telecom.
The three CEOs described the project as a new comprehensive digital and mobile App underwritten by an “ASEAN-based technology consortium to provide the latest information on Thailand for both expats and international tourists”. Read more
BEIJING, 17 May 2016: Chinese ride-hailing app Didi Chuxing is mulling an initial public offering, a report said Monday, after US technology giant Apple invested USD1 billion.
A fierce rival of Uber, Didi is “targeting” a listing in New York next year, Bloomberg News said, citing unnamed people “familiar with the matter”.
The exact timing would depend on how its battle with US-based Uber goes in China, the sources were quoted as saying. Read more
BANGKOK, 29 April 2016: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau launched, earlier this week, a ‘Biz Thailand’ mobile application as an information channel for business event travellers.
TCEB’s Information Technology Department director, Sarita Chintakanond, said the new mobile application is part of the bureau digital marketing strategy to boost MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition) business.
“The Biz Thailand mobile application, comes in two language versions Thai and English…it has been developed to provide easy access to Thai MICE industry via a smartphone.” Read more
BANGKOK, 22 January 2016: Emirates launched its Thai language version of its mobile website, this week, that allows Thai customers using mobile devices to book flights and check in.
Passengers can also review timetables and receive updates on their flight status.
Most airlines, including low-cost airlines, offer similar mobile device friendly Apps in multiple languages to encourage their customers to book flights direct. Read more
BANGKOK, 23 November 2015: Thailand’s Ministry of Culture has recently launched a new mobile application called “Thai Culture Mobile” to provide information on more than 70,000 cultural tourist destinations.
Culture Ministry, Veera Rojpojanarat, said the App was launched to correspond with the government’s digital economy policy and to expand access to the internet to research cultural tourist destinations. Read more
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 November 2015: AirAsia launched its updated mobile application, Wednesday, offering new features, improved functionality and interface.
AirAsia’s mobile app was nominated ‘World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline App’ at the upcoming World Travel Awards. This enhanced version is now available in 11 languages and it can be downloaded from the respective app stores of both iOS and Android devices.
BANGKOK, 23 September 2015: Sourcing Bangkok’s street food gets easier now the Thailand Foundation, a unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has introduced a mobile app.
Developed with assistance from the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, “Street Food Bangkok” app was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 21 September.
Foreign ambassadors and senior officials from about 20 diplomatic missions in Thailand attended the event.
