Holiday sales for Bali on hold

SINGAPORE, 28 November 2017: Travel agents in Singapore are diverting clients booked on tours to Bali to other island destinations in the region.

Bali’s international airport remains closed for the second day after fresh eruptions blasted clouds of ash and rock thousands of metres into the sky from the Mount Agung crater.

Bali lowers volcano alert

DENPASAR, 31 October 2017: The alert level for a rumbling volcano on the Indonesian resort island of Bali that forced more than 100,000 to flee has been lowered, authorities said Sunday, but there is still a chance it could erupt.

Volcanic activity in Mount Agung is slowing and the volcano’s status has been lowered from level four “danger” to level three “alert” by Indonesia’s volcanology centre.

The agency said villagers whose homes are located further than six kilometres from the crater could return home, but warned that the mountain, which has been shaking for months, had not quite come to a standstill. Read more

Bali still on high alert

DENPASAR, 12 October 2017: The situation remains unchanged in Bali, Wednesday, with the threat of a volcanic eruption on Mount Agung still at the highest alert level.

But three weeks after the emergency evacuation of residents began within a 9 km radius of the volcanic mountain, the threat continues to unsettle and disrupt the lives of residents. There are also worries that tourism the island’s economic lifeline with take a tumble.

Bali on high alert

DENPASAR, 27 September 2017: Bali’s travel trade is on high alert as the volcanic Mount Agung remains at the highest level 4 alert for the fifth day in a row as fears grow that a eruption could  be imminent.

The reliable Bali Update news channel reported, earlier this week, that 43,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes in the north and northwest of Bali as public and private relief efforts move into top gear. However, the figure has since risen to 75,000.

Bali Update said it had been “being bombarded with questions about the safety of traveling to Bali at this time”. Read more

Bali raises volcano alert

DENPASAR, 21 September 2017: Bali’s governor has urged people to remain calm amid fears of a volcanic eruption on the holiday island, local newspapers reported on Wednesday,

Seismic activity at the Mount Agung, or Gunung Agung, volcano has significantly increased since Monday, leading authorities to raise the alert to level 4, and evacuate areas within 7.5 km of the volcano.

On Tuesday, Asian Trails, in an alert to its trade partners, reported Mount Agung was unleashing a series of smoke columns. Read more
