Sofitel hires team for new hotel

BANGKOK, 1 February 2012: Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit announced, earlier this week, the appointment of its pre-opening team.
The new property is scheduled to open in the second quarter of this year with 345 rooms.
The three appointments are: Christophe Caron as general manager; Anthony Slewka director of sales and marketing and Virinya Maytheepattanachat director of marketing communications. Read more
Sea Pearl names GM

PHUKET, 20 January 2012: The Sea Pearl Villas Resort, a stand-alone property in Phuket, named Wouter Hazenbroek as its new general manager last Tuesday.
Mr Hazenbroek has over 20 years experience in management and sales. Prior to joining the resort, Mr Hazenbroek was the general manager of the Amari Boulevard Bangkok.
He has also worked for InterContinental Hotels Group, Golden Tulip International and Bilerberg Hotels & Restaurant.
Absolute names sales director

BANGKOK, 19 January 2012: Absolute Hotel Services named Anan Phongsuriyahchote as its Thailand its director of sales – leisure.
Mr Anan started work last week overseeing sales strategies for leisure markets and travel agency markets in Thailand for properties under the Eastin Hotels & Residences as well as U Hotels and Resort brands.
He has 20 years of experience working for Crowne Plaza Hotel Bangkok, Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom, Meritus Suites State Tower, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket and Furama Hotels International. Read more
PATA names regional director

BANGKOK, 16 January 2012: Pacific Asia Travel Association appointed Ivy Chee as a regional director-Asia, last week. She officially begins work at the Bangkok HQ of PATA today.
Ms Chee will be responsible for promoting membership and building opportunities for members in Asia excluding Greater China.
She moves from the regional travel booking website, Wego in Singapore, which has enjoyed a long association with PATA. Read more
Star Alliance names new CEO

ADDIS ABABA, 15 December 2011: Star Alliance appoints United Airlines’ Mark Schwab as its new CEO replacing Jaan Albrecht who moves to Austrain Airlines’ as its new CEO.
The announcement was made yesterday after the official joining ceremony of Ethiopian Airlines to the alliance.
Mr Schwab will start his new role 1 January 2012. Prior to the appointment, he was senior vice president alliances for United. He also served as a member of Star Alliance’s management board. Read more
Landmark expands portfolio

BANGKOK, 13 December 2011: Landmark Lancaster Hotel Group recently announced the appointment of Albert Cheong as area general manager for the group’s Thailand hotels, a new post in the company.
Mr Cheong will be responsible for the group’s existing Landmark Bangkok, taking over from Frank Colwyn,who left the hotel earlier in the year. He will also supervise a new property, Lancaster Bangkok, scheduled to open in the second half of 2012 at site on the Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection, near the main Airport Rail Link station.

Centara names GM for northeast hotel

BANGKOK, 7 December 2011: Centara Hotels & Resorts announced late last week the appointment of Chaiphun Thongsuthum as general manager of Centara Hotel & Convention Centre Udon Thani.
Mr Chaiphun has over 24 years’ experience in hospitality including operations, sales and marketing with 16 years as a general manager at hotels in Thailand, China, Singapore, Laos, and Myanmar.
Prior to this appointment he was general manager of Novotel Centara Hat Yai for almost six years. Read more
Dusit names new GM

BANGKOK, 29 November 2011: Dusit International announced, Monday, the appointment of Alex Willats as the new general manager of the Dusit Thani Hotel.
He was acting general manager for the last six months. A British national, Mr Willats joined Dusit Thani in October 2010 from a hotel appointment in Bahrain, where he was executive assistant manager with Radisson Hotels.
He has held senior management positions in hotels in the UK, including the Ritz and Claridge’s London. Read more
Eastin gains Minburi hotel

BANGKOK, 18 November 2011: Absolute Hotel Services Group appointed Narongrith Fuengraya as the general manager for its latest property in Thailand; Eastin Easy Siam Piman in Bangkok.
The hotel is due to open in early 2012 at a site in Minburi district, 20 km northeast of the city’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Mr Narongrith joins the group from Ate Hotel Chumporn, Thailand where he was the manager and led the opening team.
PATA and Ridgway part company

BANGKOK 9 November 2011 – Pacific Asia Travel Association and its recently appointed regional director Asia, Reid Ridgway, will part company effective 30 November.
Reports surfaced, last week, that Mr Ridgway had either quit, or had held discussions with the CEO regarding a mutually agreeable exit. PATA Communications told Phuket News yesterday that it does not comment on human resources or employment matters that remain confidential.
He was appointed 21 July by the interim CEO, Bill Calderwood, who returns to Australia this month after working for the associations for nine months.
