Wing lands acquisition in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 17 October 2017: Wings Travel Management, a global travel management company, is expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific region with an acquisition of a well known travel firm in Singapore.

Majoring in business travel and support services for clients in the corporate, oil, gas and marine industries, the company sealed a Sale and Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of a 70% stake in Olympia Travels & Tours for an undisclosed sum.

Although the acquisition will not be completed before 1 January 2018, Wings will serve its existing customers in Asia from Singapore with immediate effect. Read more

DTG rumour mill grinds to a halt

BANGKOK, 2 October 2017: Tourasia’s founder and CEO, Stephen Roemer, who was recently named the new CEO of Diethelm Travel Group following a tourasia and DTG merger, officially started work 1 October.

Asked to clarify some of his priorities in email questions, he said: “ It goes without saying that I will come up with a business strategy and a clear positioning. This is what I am working on with the teams of Diethelm and All Asia Exclusive (AAE) at this moment.”

DTG and tourasia jointly announced the merger in late August and by 18 September former CEO, Lisa Fitzell, who had headed the tour company for two and half years left the Bangkok office. Read more

Loyal travel agents earn GTA gift points

SINGAPORE – 29 September 2017: GTA reports its G-Shop loyalty programme has recorded over USD52 million in revenue from participating travel agents in Asia in the last six months.

To sweeten the deal, registered G-Shop’s  travel agency users can maximize their rewards and earn three times G-Shop points with preferred hotel partners under GTAs partner programmes.

To date, more than 2,000 agents have already made redemptions on the points they  earned so far in 2017. Read more

Thomas Cook outlook bright

LONDON, 27 September 2017: British travel firm, Thomas Cook, faced a “challenging” September as it took care of 22,000 customers in destinations hit by Hurricane Irma, it said Tuesday alongside a bright trading update.

Thomas Cook was forced to evacuate some of 7,500 customers from its badly-hit resorts in Cuba, a company spokeswoman said.

The group provided also support for 10,000 customers in Florida and 4,500 in the Dominican Republic, but there was no need for evacuation programmes, the spokeswoman said. Read more

Journey Within hands over local offices

SIEM REAP, 21 September, 2017: Journey Within Tour Company is handing over its Southeast Asian operations to local staff for them to own and manage.

The process starts in Cambodia with staff in the Siem Reap office taking control of operations rather than it continuing as a subsidiary of the US-based Journey Within Tour.

Reed chairs Destination Asia

BANGKOK, 20 September 2017: Destination Asia’s founder and CEO, James Reed, assumes the role of executive chairman, while Monique Arnoux joins as the company’s CEO.

Reed formed Destination Asia Group in 1996, and is credited with being one of the early pioneers who developed the lucrative inbound incentives segment in Thailand and neighbouring countries.

He started with a presence in just two countries and 18 staff in 1996, building the firm to what it is today with an Asia-wide network in 11 countries and over 600 staff working in 29 offices. Read more

Khiri Travel opens Hoi An office

Khiri Travel Vietnam has opened a new office in Hoi An, on the central coast of Vietnam to serve clients heading for the World Heritage resort.

Established 1 September, the office is the company’s third after Hoi Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

JNTO backs Japan Tour show

BANGKOK, 30 August 2017: Japan Tourism Organization (JNTO) will host the  Japan Tour 2017,  22 to 24 September in a downtown Bangkok shopping mall hall.

The event’s venue is Royal Paragon Hall 3, Siam Paragon, 5th Floor.

JNTO is assembling travel content from tour and hotel operators in Japan along with tour companies from various provinces in Japan and with supporting air fare deals from airlines. Read more
