Khiri Travel opens in Sulawesi

BANGKOK, 17January 2018: Khiri Travel Indonesia opened an office in Makassar, Sulawesi, late last year, which is now fully operational and accepting tour bookings.

The new office is Khiri’s fifth in Indonesia. Other offices are serving tour clients in Lombok, Bali, Labuan Bajo (Flores), and Yogyakarta (Java.

The tour company’s new Sulawesi office will look after Khiri itineraries in Sulawesi, Kalimantan, The Moluccas, and Papua. Read more

Go Vacation gains Travelife status

BANGKOK, 11 January 2018: Travel group, Go Vacation, has gained Travelife Partner Sustainability Award status for more of its offices in Asia.

In December last year,  Go Vacation Sri Lanka was awarded Travellife certification and now the group confirms the same status for its offices in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.

TUI’s ‘headline’ profit falls

FRANKFURT, 15 December 2017: European tourism giant TUI on Wednesday reported a sharp fall in headline profits in its 2016-17 financial year, but said its underlying performance remained solid, thanks to its hotels and cruise line businesses.

TUI — based in the north German city of Hanover and listed on the London stock exchange — booked net profit of 645 million euros (USD758 million) between October last year and September this year.

That was a fall of 38% from the previous year. Read more

Destination Asia strengthen North America sales

BANGKOK, 14 December 2017: Destination Asia has appointed Michelle Rust to head its North American incentive travel and event business development for the Asian region.

The new appointment offers North American customers access to highly skilled Asian operations, backed by Destination Asia’s existing sales and marketing team located in their head office in Bangkok.

DTG boss honoured in Switzerland

BANGKOK, 3 November 2017: Diethelm Travel Group’s CEO, Stephan Roemer, received a top honour from the travel trade of Switzerland, last week, that recognised his leadership, business acumen and experience in the industry.

Roemer won the ‘Travel Personality Award’ for 2017 and accepted it during the annual Swiss Travel Awards in Zurich.

Wing lands acquisition in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 17 October 2017: Wings Travel Management, a global travel management company, is expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific region with an acquisition of a well known travel firm in Singapore.

Majoring in business travel and support services for clients in the corporate, oil, gas and marine industries, the company sealed a Sale and Purchase Agreement for the acquisition of a 70% stake in Olympia Travels & Tours for an undisclosed sum.

Although the acquisition will not be completed before 1 January 2018, Wings will serve its existing customers in Asia from Singapore with immediate effect. Read more

DTG rumour mill grinds to a halt

BANGKOK, 2 October 2017: Tourasia’s founder and CEO, Stephen Roemer, who was recently named the new CEO of Diethelm Travel Group following a tourasia and DTG merger, officially started work 1 October.

Asked to clarify some of his priorities in email questions, he said: “ It goes without saying that I will come up with a business strategy and a clear positioning. This is what I am working on with the teams of Diethelm and All Asia Exclusive (AAE) at this moment.”

DTG and tourasia jointly announced the merger in late August and by 18 September former CEO, Lisa Fitzell, who had headed the tour company for two and half years left the Bangkok office. Read more
