China sales go tabletop

BANGKOK, 18 August 2017: Thai Hotels Association is inviting members to join a Hotels Meet Local Agents Chinese Speaking Marketplace, 1330 to 1930, 22 September.

The sales event will be held at Chaturathit and Parichart rooms, Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok.

THA is cooperating with the Association of Thai Travel Agents to organise the programme, which will provide opportunities for hotel and tour operators to negotiate business and exchange knowledge at tabletop sessions. Read more

Thailand’s outbound travel grows

BANGKOK, 15 August 2017: Thai Travel Agents Association estimates Thais travel overseas will reach 8.5 million visits by this the end of this year.

TTAA’s president, Suparerk Soorangura, told TTR Weekly that the number of Thais make overseas trips this year will continue to grow from 7.9 million visits last year.

TTAA’s members are made up of tour companies that sell holiday packages to overseas destinations. Read more

JacTravel CEO calls it a day

LONDON, 9 August 2017: JacTravel’s CEO, Terry Williamson, has announced that he will be leaving JacTravel following the completion of the sale of the company to Webjet.

The sale is scheduled to be completed officially at the end of this month.

Webjet Limited announce, 2 August, that it had entered into an agreement to acquire JacTravel. Read more

2017 slumps 7% for Thai agents

BANGKOK, 7 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents’ member companies handled 3,365,734 travellers, January to July this year, at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports representing a decline of 7.2% from 3,627,261 trips during the same period last year.

ATTA released its data, late last week, based on fees member agencies pay to the two airports to provide a meet-and-greet service for international clients, but limited to travel through Bangkok.

The association vice president, Mingkwan Metmowlee, said organise programmes and provide products corresponding to the state’s policy would help to boost tourism business. Read more

ATTA rolls out training modules

BANGKOK, 3 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents will organise 12 training programmes for the remaining months of this year as a part of its policy to build skills for member travel agencies.

ATTA’s recently elected committee is now moving ahead on its promised policy to improve HR capital through digital marketing training courses.

The association says it will organise 12 training programmes August through to December; four events per months all open to members. Read more

India’s Yatra buys out ATB

GURGAON, INDIA, 27 July 2017: Yatra Online has entered into a definitive agreement, through its subsidiary, Yatra Online Private Limited to acquire Air Travel Bureau Ltd.

The Boards of Directors of both companies have approved the transaction according to the announcement last Tuesday.

ATB is India’s largest independent corporate travel services provider with gross bookings of INR15 billion mainly through 400 large and medium sized businesses across India. Read more

Agents discover Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, 21 April 2017: Destination Asia Vietnam recently hosted a series of hosted high-end retail travel agent trips from the US following a growing interest in the market for luxury itineraries featuring Vietnam.

For many of the travel agents it was their first visit to Vietnam and Destination Asia wanted to show them authentic travel experiences using local knowledge.

The groups visited a variety of destinations including, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An in central Vietnam and the capital Hanoi. Read more

Crackdown on travel agents

QUANG NINH, 10 April 2017: Quang Ninh’s Party Committee’s Communication and Education Commission says the province is cracking down on travel agencies and guides to improve the image of local tourism.

The province is famous for its national world heritage site of Halong Bay that draws millions of domestic and foreign tourists annually.

According to a Vietnam Net Bridges’ report that quoted the commission head, Cao Tuong Huy, three travel agents were fined and their international travel business licences revoked. Read more
