Asia sustains Thai travel agency bookings

BANGKOK, 8 December 2017:  Thailand’s inbound tour companies are enjoying a 5.76% increase in clients using their ground services, January through to 30 November.

The latest data from the Association of Thai Travel agents shows member companies handled 5,330,881 clients at Bangkok’s two gateway airports.

ATTA does not provide figures for clients handled at airports elsewhere in the country. Read more

DTG names top executives

BANGKOK: 3 November 2017: Diethelm Travel Group announced, this week, the appointment of Victor Mogilev as group director of sales and Janejira Vewatanawarangkun as general manager Diethelm Travel Thailand, both effective 1 November.

They are based in Bangkok at the Diethelm Travel Group’s head office.

Previously holding the post of general manager of Diethelm Travel Thailand, Mogilev has considerable experience. He joined the company in 2012. Read more

Travel agents see market shrink

BANGKOK, 31 August 2017: Thailand’s inbound travel companies continue to face declines in tourists using their services, based on the latest data from the Association of Thai Travel Agents.

Based on a meet-and-greet tally at Bangkok’s two gateway airports, ATTA members provided services for 3,740,187 travellers, January to August 20, this year, down by 6%.

ATTA provides the most accurate barometer of the state of health of the inbound travel agency scene, but limited to guests met at Bangkok’s two gateway airports. Read more

ASIA DMC extends footprint

HANOI, 29 August 2017: Vietnam-based ASIA DMC will launch a North American sales office based in Los Angeles headed by American born, Derek Ong.

Ong will assume the role of director of sales and marketing for ASIA DMC in the US.

With a background of more than 14 selling travel in Southeast Asia with leading travel firms, Ong will introduce ASIA DMC’s products and services to US homeland. Read more

China sales go tabletop

BANGKOK, 18 August 2017: Thai Hotels Association is inviting members to join a Hotels Meet Local Agents Chinese Speaking Marketplace, 1330 to 1930, 22 September.

The sales event will be held at Chaturathit and Parichart rooms, Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok.

THA is cooperating with the Association of Thai Travel Agents to organise the programme, which will provide opportunities for hotel and tour operators to negotiate business and exchange knowledge at tabletop sessions. Read more

Thailand’s outbound travel grows

BANGKOK, 15 August 2017: Thai Travel Agents Association estimates Thais travel overseas will reach 8.5 million visits by this the end of this year.

TTAA’s president, Suparerk Soorangura, told TTR Weekly that the number of Thais make overseas trips this year will continue to grow from 7.9 million visits last year.

TTAA’s members are made up of tour companies that sell holiday packages to overseas destinations. Read more

JacTravel CEO calls it a day

LONDON, 9 August 2017: JacTravel’s CEO, Terry Williamson, has announced that he will be leaving JacTravel following the completion of the sale of the company to Webjet.

The sale is scheduled to be completed officially at the end of this month.

Webjet Limited announce, 2 August, that it had entered into an agreement to acquire JacTravel. Read more

2017 slumps 7% for Thai agents

BANGKOK, 7 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents’ member companies handled 3,365,734 travellers, January to July this year, at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports representing a decline of 7.2% from 3,627,261 trips during the same period last year.

ATTA released its data, late last week, based on fees member agencies pay to the two airports to provide a meet-and-greet service for international clients, but limited to travel through Bangkok.

The association vice president, Mingkwan Metmowlee, said organise programmes and provide products corresponding to the state’s policy would help to boost tourism business. Read more

ATTA rolls out training modules

BANGKOK, 3 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents will organise 12 training programmes for the remaining months of this year as a part of its policy to build skills for member travel agencies.

ATTA’s recently elected committee is now moving ahead on its promised policy to improve HR capital through digital marketing training courses.

The association says it will organise 12 training programmes August through to December; four events per months all open to members. Read more

India’s Yatra buys out ATB

GURGAON, INDIA, 27 July 2017: Yatra Online has entered into a definitive agreement, through its subsidiary, Yatra Online Private Limited to acquire Air Travel Bureau Ltd.

The Boards of Directors of both companies have approved the transaction according to the announcement last Tuesday.

ATB is India’s largest independent corporate travel services provider with gross bookings of INR15 billion mainly through 400 large and medium sized businesses across India. Read more
