AirAsia shines at World Travel Awards

PHU QUOC, Vietnam, 12 December 2017 – AirAsia has been named the World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline for the fifth year in a row at the 2017 World Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final.

AirAsia emerged top in the category having received the highest votes from travel professionals and industry players from around the world, beating Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, Ryanair, easyJet, Jetstar Airways, Norwegian Air, West Air, flydubai, Air Arabia, flynas, kulula, Mango and fastjet.

Asia’s largest low-cost carrier by passengers also won the inaugural World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crew award, ahead of the same 13 budget airlines. The win builds on AirAsia’s success earlier this year when it secured WTA’s first ever Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crew award. Read more

Thais told to go north

CHIANG RAI, 6 December 2017: Domestic tourists remain the key to success driving tourism year-round in North Thailand, Tourism Authority of Thailand Director northern region, Somradee Chitchong, told a group of Thai travel bloggers.

Supervising tourism promotions in 17 northern provinces, Somradee hosted 105 Thai bloggers for a Go North promotion that closed in Chiang Rai last week.

They toured the north ending the trip, at Mae Fah Luang heritage park in Chiang Rai for a networking session with TAT directors from the 10 northern offices. Read more

SADAO, 4 December 2017: Tourism Malaysia gave bikers a celebrity send off to promote Southern Thai Packages to Malaysia specifically for motor bike enthusiasts with the aim of increasing overland travel to Malaysia.

Leading the send off,  Tourism Malaysia deputy director general (promotion),  YBHG Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud and director international promotion (ASEAN), Syed Yahya Syed Othman, waved off  tour participants  who biked  from Hat Yai, Thailand to Penang, Malaysia.

Thailand-Malaysia cooperation in tourism is being emphasised this year to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Read more

ASEAN faces up to marine debris

General Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of Thailand presided over the ASEAN Conference.

PHUKET, 28 November, 2017: ASEAN countries met in Phuket last week to tackle marine debris as reports identify four ASEAN nations among the top sea polluter, worldwide.

Phuket hosted the ASEAN Conference on Reducing Marine Debris  at the JW Marriot Phuket Resort & Spa.

Over 300  marine experts from 10 ASEAN member countries and representatives from ASEAN countries’ environmental ministries, including a representative from China, academic experts in marine studies and international conservation groups participated in the event. Read more

Heinecke honoured by HOTELS

BANGKOK, 22 November 2017: Minor International founder, chairman and CEO, William E. Heinecke, has been named Corporate Hotelier of the World for 2017 by the trade magazine HOTELS.

Nominated as one of four finalists in the Corporate Hotelier category, Heinecke accepted the award at a gala event in New York, where HOTELS celebrated both their corporate and independent hotelier of the world award winners.

Vienna welcomes THAI flight

VIENNA, 17 November 2017: THAI’s newest service to Austria’s capital, Vienna, received a warm welcome from  the airport’s management.

Welcoming the inaugural flight, Vienna International Airport Management Board member, Julian Jager (sixth from left), congratulated the airline’s acting president, Usanee Sangsingkeo, (fifth from left) on establishing the new service.
