Airlines support flood victims

NAKHON PHANOM, 11 August 2017: Thai Airways International, Thai Smile and Nok Air, supported efforts, this week. to distribute food and necessities to flood victims in Northeast Thailand.

Seen here are: Usanee Sangsingkeo (forth from left), acting president, Thai Airways International together with the THAI Board of Management and representatives from Thai Smile, and Nok Air.

They distributed survival bags and ready-to-eat meals, to Suwicharn Yankittikun (fifth from left), Nakhon Phanom’s Police Chief, who supervised the distribution to flood victims  gathered at a flood assistance centre located at Ban Nakam Sompoi School. Read more

AirAsia honoured for marketing campaign

SEPANG, 10 August 2017: AirAsia snapped up the best Asean marketing campaign at the Asean Tourism Association (ASEANTA) Awards for Excellence, Tuesday.

AirAsia’s “Think ASEAN, Think AirAsia” campaign was named Best ASEAN Marketing and Promotional Campaign at the 30th ASEANTA Awards for Excellence hosted at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta last night.

TG opens women only counter

BANGKOK, 9 August 2017: Recognising women are high-spend travellers in their own right, Thai Airways International launched an initiative to support the Women’s Journey Thailand campaign 2017.

THAI is backing the month-long campaign to emphasis female travel with a special counter decked out in a ‘pink lady’ theme.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand relaunched the campaign following the success of its 2016 campaign that offered special privileges for female travellers.   Read more

Helping hand for flood victims

BANGKOK, 4 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents president Vichit Prakobgosol (fifth from left) with board directors met Tourism and Sports permanent secretary, Pongpanu Svetarundra, (fourth from right) to donate THB603,000 to help flood victims in Northeast Thailand.

According to Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department data as of 2 August, there were still 10 provinces suffering from flooding.

The affected provinces are: Sakon Nakhon; Roi Et; Nakhon Phanom; Nakhon Ratchasima; Kalasin; Yasothorn; Mukdahan; Amnatcharoen; Ubon Ratchathani and Ayutthaya. Read more

Nok nests in top 10

BANGKOK, 3 August 2017: Nok Air has recently named for the third time in the ‘Top 10 Budget Airlines’ list of the annual Smart Travel Asia 2017 Best in Travel Poll.

Nok Air is the only low-cost carrier from Thailand that has been voted among the top 10 budget airlines.  The carrier ranked in seventh place together with Spicejet.

Other budget airlines on the list were: Jetstar Asia; Indigo; AirAsia; Scoot and Hong Kong Express, Cebu Pacific; Tiger Airways; Spicejet; Peach and Jin Air. Read more

Raffles readies for scrub

SINGAPORE, 26 July 2017: Sir Stamford Raffles must be one of the cleanest statues in the region.

He gets a regular scrub down and is suitably deodorised in keeping with his lofty status as the most snapped statue in this island nation, second only to the Merlion.

Hardly surprising as Singapore is considered the squeaky clean destination of Southeast Asia, light years ahead of its neighbours in hygiene and public health. Read more

Travel agency plants trees

BANGKOK, 17 July 2017: ASIA DMC has introduced a tree planting initiative in Thailand, tagged ‘Roots and Fruits’.

According to regional tour company, the campaign will see the planting of hundreds of fruit trees across remote, socially deprived areas, with the aim of providing a new, sustainable income for communities in need.

To initiate the campaign in Thailand, ASIA DMC and the HG Foundation visited a temple school at Samui Sakhon, to plant trees that will produce a potential 9,000 kg of fruit. Read more

STAR wins Skytrax award

LOS ANGELES, 13 July, 2017: The Star Alliance Lounge located at Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles Airport was voted best alliance lounge at the Skytrax World Airline Awards for the third year in a row.

Presenting the award to the lounge team, Star Alliance, vice president customer experience Christian Draeger said: “Getting this accolade three years in a row is testament to the fact that we have a fantastic team operating and managing our LA Lounge.”

Member carrier Air New Zealand developed the Alliance’s LAX lounge and manages the facility on behalf of Star Alliance. Read more

Yap honoured by French tourism agency

Robin Yap  awarded  the prestigious Gold Medal for Tourism (“Médaille d’or du Tourisme”) from His Excellency Monsieur Marc Abensour, Ambassador of France to Singapore last week.
