AirAsia flies to Nha Trang

NHA TRANG, Vietnam, 20 September 2017: AirAsia has launched daily flights to Nha Trang, Vietnam, from its home-base Kuala Lumpur.

Flights commenced last Friday making AirAsia the first airline to operate a direct service to Nha Trang from Malaysia.

The inaugural flight was packed with a cabin factor of 93%.  Seats were filled up with VIP guests and media representatives, who joined the flight to Cam Ranh International Airport for the welcome ceremony. Read more

Sunway opens KL hotel

KUALA LUMPUR; 18 September 2017 – Sunway Hotels & Resorts, confirmed, Friday, its 351-room Sunway Velocity Hotel will open 20 September.

Upon opening, the mid-market hotel will be the only transit-oriented, and integrated hotel within the Cheras vicinity.

The Hotel that cost MYR146 million, is a 59:41 joint venture project between Sunway Berhad and Fawanis Sdn Bhd. Read more

MH signals return to Surabaya

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 August 2017: After an absence of five years, Malaysia Airlines will resume services between Kuala Lumpur and Surabaya in Indonesia, 29 October.

Effective with the winter scheduled 2017/18, which covers October through to March next year, the airline will offer four weekly flights using Boeing 737-800s.

Malaysia Airlines will face stiff competition from AirAsia, which has been serving the route with daily services for a considerable time. Read more

AirAsia X bags ARC awardss

SEPANG, 29 August 2017: AirAsia X Berhad’s 2016 annual report has won two gold awards at the International Annual Report Competition (ARC) Awards for the first time ever.

The airline won the top prize in two categories, Best Non-Traditional Annual Report (Airlines) and Printing and Production (Airlines). It also bagged silver in the Cover Photo/Design (Airlines) category.

The annual report, themed “Realising Dreams”, features a memorable cover of three adorable children – a boy donning a pilot’s uniform, a girl wearing a cabin crew uniform, and another boy in ordinary clothes with a boarding pass in his pocket like a passenger – to inspire children to strive to make their dreams come true. AirAsia bags billion club award

SEPANG, 24 August 2017: AirAsia has been named Malaysia’s best company at The Edge Billion Ringgit Club 2017.

AirAsia won the coveted Company of the Year award based on its return to shareholders, growth in profit before tax and return on equity over three years as well as corporate responsibility initiatives.

AirAsia also received two other accolades for Highest Growth in Profit After Tax Over Three Years for Big Cap Companies with MYR10 Billion to MYR40 Billion Market Capitalisation and for Highest Growth in Profit After Tax Over Three Years for Trading/Services, Hotels, IPC and Technology. Read more

Singapore gains liveable points

SINGAPORE, 18 August 2017: For the first time Singapore overhauled Hong Kong in the Economist Intelligence Unit 2017 Global Liveability Ranking released Wednesday.

Singapore jumped 11 places to 35th in the annual survey that assigns scores for 140 cities based on 30 criteria covering stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Hong Kong slipped two places to 45th. Read more

A new aviation tax in pipeline

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 August 2017: Following on from a MYR10 tourist tax that comes into effect 1 September, Malaysia is processing a new tax on departing airline travellers.

There are plans to introduce a MYR1 (US$0.23) levy for all passengers departing from Malaysian airports as early as 2018.

Airbnb offers for Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR 16 August 2017: After a 16-year break, Malaysia is once again set to host the Southeast Asian Games.

Held from 19 to 30 August in Kuala Lumpur, the region’s biggest multi-sporting event will feature sporting talent from 11 Southeast Asian countries.

This year’s event, held at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, should boost guest arrivals in the area adjacent to the stadium by an estimated 2,000 guest arrivals during the SEA Games. Read more

AirAsia flies to Sihanoukville

SEPANG, 11 AUGUST 2017: AirAsia introduced its newest route, Thursday, linking Kuala Lumpur and Sihanoukville, in Cambodia.

Effective 10 August, the airline flies four weekly services direct from Kuala Lumpur to Cambodia’s southern coastal port and beach resort.

The town’s airport is located 7 km to the north of the port and has up until now been served by domestic airlines and a flight from Vietnam. Read more
