HONG KONG, 28 November 2017: South Korea’s low-cost carrier, Jin Air, is selling fares discounted by up to 88%  through to 1 December.

The quick sale ‘JIN MARKET’ is described as the biggest flight discount promotion that the airline has ever offered inspired by Korea’s department store seasonal super sales.

The JIN MARKET online special discount promotion is offered every six months during Korea’s autumn and spring. Read more

Okay Air thumbs up for Dreamliner

BEIJING, 27 November 2017: Boeing and China’s first privately owned airline, Okay Airways, have finalised a USD1.4-billion order for five Dreamliner jets, the two companies said on Thursday.

The purchase of the five 787-9 long-haul aircraft by the Beijing-based airline was signed off in the United States on Wednesday and announced on Thursday via the companies’ official accounts on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo.

Okay Airways currently has a fleet of 26 single-corridor Boeing 737 planes, which fly to 70 destinations in China and elsewhere in Asia. Read more

Air China ends North Korea flight

BEIJING, 23 November 2017: Air China has suspended flights to North Korea, further limiting the secretive state’s links with the outside world, but the company said Wednesday it was a business decision.

The suspension comes shortly after US President Donald Trump visited Beijing and pressed his counterpart Xi Jinping to do more to rein in North Korea’s nuclear programme.

China sent a special envoy, Song Tao, to the North last week but his four-day trip ended with no direct statement on the crisis, after Pyongyang’s series of nuclear and missile tests triggered global alarm. Read more

Pepper joins Mandarin team

HONG KONG, 22 November 2017 – Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas has hired Pepper, a humanoid robot, as hotel technical ambassador.

The newest team member will primarily be based in the Sky Lobby located on the hotel’s 23rd floor, greeting guests and complementing hotel services through “engaging and playful” entertainment.

However, Pepper is described as a hotel team member and acts as a colleague, event at four-foot (1.2-metre) tall  and blessed with enormous eyes. Read more

Japanese fair trade raids Airbnb

TOKYO, 21 November 2017: Anti-monopoly officials raided Airbnb’s offices in Japan, the home-sharing giant confirmed at the weekend, while denying any wrongdoing.

Japan’s Fair Trade Commission reportedly carried out the raids over suspicions Airbnb was requiring users to sign exclusively with its site and cut ties with other agencies.

“Airbnb Japan received an on-site inspection by the Japan Fair Trade Commission and we are cooperating with the Commission’s ongoing investigation,” the company said in a statement. Read more

ITB China builds partnership

SHANGHAI, 16 November 2017: ITB China and the China Tourism Association have confirmed a partnership to present marketing and promotional activities during the annual trade show.

It should beef up attendance by China’s  tour operators to ensure exhibitors can network and fill up their show appointment slots with decision makers from China’s outbound travel market.

China books massive Boeing order

BEIJING, 10 November 2017: China signed an agreement Thursday to buy 300 airplanes from US aerospace giant Boeing valued over USD37 billion, as part of a multi-billion dollar raft of deals announced during President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing.

The agreement for China Aviation Suppliers Holding Co (CASC) to buy the single-aisle and twin-aisle aircraft was among the more than USD250 billion in agreements announced at a ceremony attended by Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

A Boeing statement said the agreement includes “orders and commitments” to buy the aircraft, but it did not give a further breakdown. Read more

Hong Kong Airlines buys into Sabre data

SINGAPORE, 8 November, 2017: Sabre Corporation signed a multi-year agreement to provide Sabre MIDT Network Plus data to Hong Kong Airlines.

The purchase is expected to be pivotal in providing the airline with intelligence as they chart their expansion plans into North America.

Hong Kong Airlines will now have access to booking data from Sabre agents, worldwide, for all traveller origins and destinations where Hong Kong Airlines operates at least one segment of the traveller journey. Read more
