CLMV minsters create blueprint

HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2017: Four Mekong Region countries, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam attracted 22 million visits, last year, leaders of the CLMV tourism group reported on the sidelines of the International Travel Expo last Friday.

They were attending the 4th Meeting of Cambodia – Laos – Myanmar- Vietnam (CLMV) Tourism Ministers, held during ITE Ho Chi Minh City and concluded tourism was major driver for their economies.

ITE gains stature in regional market

HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2017: ITE-HCMC has affirmed its position as one of the region’s leading travel trade shows that will draw more tourists to visit Vietnam.

Speaking at the Gala Dinner, at ITE late last week, Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, said the event was recognised as a leading professional forum for tourism management agencies, tourism enterprises at home and overseas to meet, exchange and conduct business discussions.

“Through the framework of the expo, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the people, history, culture and destinations of all countries in the region,” he said. Read more

Hyatt Place makes debut in Phuket

BANGKOK, 5 April 2016: Boutique Corporation announced the soft opening of its latest property, Hyatt Place Phuket, Patong , Saturday, the first Hyatt Place branded property in Southeast Asia.

The group’s president and CEO, Prub Thakral, hosted local media from Bangkok for site inspection last weekend.

He described the successful branding of the first Hyatt Place in the region as a “milestone for Boutique Corporation’s real estate business in Thailand.” Read more

Community tourism pushed at MTF

DANANG, 10 July 2015: There were calls to boost partnerships and improve connectivity during the main session of the recent Mekong Tourism Forum.

Around 100 representatives of Greater Mekong Sub-region governments and private sector tourism leaders met in Danang for the 19th Mekong Tourism Forum in mid-June.

Asian Development Bank’s Southeast Asia tourism expert, Steven Schipan, told forum delegates it was necessary to develop tourism in ways that would benefit communities and ensures environmental protection. Read more

Danang MTF a watershed

BANGKOK, 9 July 2015: Last month’s Mekong Tourism Forum attracted at best 100 stakeholders from governments, NGOs and the private sector.

In its hey-day the event would have attracted at least 200 to 250 delegates for the day and half of meetings.

Ironically, for the first time in the event’s 12-year history registration was free, subsidised by the Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Greening hotel keeping

BANGKOK, 30 June 2015: Judging by the turnout at Monday’s Green Hotel Supplier and Consumer Conference, hoteliers are keen to be green especially when they are buying services and products.

Around 130 hoteliers attended the event joined by more than 70 suppliers.

Sponsored by the Green Leaf Foundation, Human Resources Management Club and the Thai Hotels Association the event was hosted at Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok.
