Thai Airways International may increase capital in order to invest in its fleet and other related services such as the in-flight entertainment and IT sales platforms.
THAI president, Piyasvasti Amranand, said the airline is conducting its five-year strategic plan (2010-2014) and finalising what investment would be needed to improve products and services. The plan has been designated ‘Mission TG100’, which aims to ensure a sustainable corporate future for the airline over the next 50 years. The airline celebrates its first 50 years anniversary next April.

Mixed messages on arrivals

THAILAND’S Tourism and Sports Ministry reports the country’s nine-month tourist arrivals reached 9,895,376, a 12% decline against 11,256,661 in the same period last year, while the country’s biggest inbound tour operators’ association struggled with a 30% drop in customers handled through Suvarnabhumi Airport, in Bangkok.
A 12% decline in tourist arrivals was reported, last week, by Tourism and Sports Minister, Chumpol Silpa-archa, although he still believes the country could attract 13.5 to 14.1 million arrivals by the end of this year.
Thai Orchid Tour promotes tours to Iran

Thai Orchid Tours announced a partnership with Iranian tour operator, Azadi International Tourism Organisation, last week, which will boost travel exchange between the two countries.
Thai Orchid Tour is an inbound and outbound tour operator run by Synergy Aviation, the GSA of Iran Air in Bangkok.
Synergy Aviation managing director and Thai Orchid Tour director, Sunanta Wuthisakul, explained that by partnering with AITO, the company expects to build awareness and increase sales to Iran in the Thai outbound market.
Elite Card in a shuffle

Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Sinlapa-archa backs a plan to transfer the Thailand Elite Card to the management of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
He made the statement yesterday, at press conference at the ministry, saying the final decision would be made on the future of the Thailand Elite Card at a Cabinet meeting, 17 November.
However, the minister suggested that of all the options considered, the most appropriate one was to continue the project, but under the management of the TAT
Post-ITB2010 road show

Tourism Authority of Thailand will organise a post-ITB 2010 road show to Poland and Czech Republic, 15 to 18 March 2010.
The road show will be held 15 March in Poznan, 16 March in Warsaw, Poland and 18 March in Prague, Czech Republic. The event in each city includes a market briefing, table-top sales, product presentation and cocktail reception.
Plans to extend Pai runway

The runway at Pai Airport in Mae Hong Son province will be extended by another 200 metres following the approval of a Bt28 million government budget.
SGA, the commuter airline that serves the resort town from its base in Chiang Mai says it will increase flights during December and January the main season for Pai.
The Bt28 million budget is part of the government’s economic stimulus package known as Thai Khemkheng.
TCEB to award creativity

TCEB will introduce “Thailand Creative Event Awards” to build confidence in the country’s events industry. Applications are open until 31 January, 2010.
Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, meetings and incentives director, Malinee Kitapanich, who leaves the bureau today, said TCEB has teamed up with five partners to establish “Thailand Creative Event Awards-TCEA”, which to be held annually. They include citations for creative design, media and tourism enterprises.
VN extends domestic network

Vietnam Airlines has launched two new direct flights – Hanoi-Tuy Hoa and Hanoi-Pleiku – with an initial frequency of three and four flights per week, respectively.
The airline uses its Fokker-70 on both routes. The three-weekly flight Hanoi-Tuy Hua service was launched 24 October with services every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Pleiku-bound services weres introduced, 27 October, every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Exotissimo Travel launches adventure brochure

New 32-page guides to adventure travel in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar as well as Indonesia, Exotissimo’s latest destination, were launched earlier this month. An office in Indonesia is due to open in January 2010.
The 2010 guides highlight Exotissimo’s tours, ranging from experiential activities – such as luxury camping excursions – to classic cycling and trekking activities.
