Seeking out Sihanoukville beaches

SIHANOUKVILLE, 22 August 2016: If I had to vote on it, trade shows would win. I enjoy the cut and thrust of the shop floor, the networking and catch-up time with trade show friends, the predecessors of today’s Facebook friends.

Trade shows are social venues for a circle of friends you hardly see elsewhere. That’s understandable they are always transiting from one show to the next, year-round with a short break during summer and another at Christmas to salvage family unity.

I was mulling over my event preferences at the recent Mekong Tourism Forum held in Sihanoukville, a resort and port town on the southern coast of Cambodia. Read more

SIHANOUKVILLE, 25 July 2016: Russian roulette is not a game I play. Actually, I don’t play games or gamble.

That was true until a climbed aboard a mini-bus for the transfer from Phnom Penh’s sparkling new airport terminal to Sihanoukville, 250 km  southeast of the Cambodian capital.

As the mini-bus darted through the tiniest of gaps in the traffic that choked Phnom Penh’s main highway no 4 south I got the uncomfortable feeling surviving the drive was going to be a gamble.  Read more

IT&CMA draws praises for its forums

BANGKOK, 2 October 2015: IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific 2015 closed, Thursday evening ,claiming it had successfully hosed 100 business, education and networking sessions.

The organisers said delegates gave “their thumbs up” to highly satisfactory outcomes across the board, from business appointments, to knowledge fulfilment, and networking engagement.

Returning exhibitor Tourism New Zealand’s Business events manager South & Southeast Asia, Edward Kwek, was quoted saying his team had met high quality buyers.

BANGKOK, 1 October 2015: Thai Airways International was one of the main Thailand co-sponsors of the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA) 2015 that was hosted at the CentralWorld Convention Centre, earlier this week.

The B2B event is a networking opportunity for companies selling events in Asia and beyond. The exhibition component brings them in contact with suppliers, worldwide, including airlines, hotels groups and destination bureaus. Read more

IT&CMA: Launch pad for branding

BANGKOK, 1 October 2015: IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific 2015 attracted a record number of international destinations, Convention Visitor Bureaus (CVBs) and corporate companies the organisers reported, on the closing day of the show.

IT&CMA’s main backer, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, used the event to launch its 2016 branding campaign.

MICE forum launched at IT&CMA

BANGKOK, 3O September 2015: IT&CMA hosted the first-ever ASEAN MICE Forum on the sidelines of this regional B2B event that opened Tuesday at Bangkok CentralWorld Convention Centre.

Thailand supplied the bulk of the content at the forum with a line-up of over 20 MICE, events intelligence, corporate travel and association management knowledge sessions led by over 30 speakers.

The first-ever ASEAN MICE Forum was endorsed by the ASEAN Marketing and Communications Working Group.

IT&CMA highlights network functions

SINGAPORE, 28 September 2015: Seoul, Dubai and the Philippines are all sponsoring networking functions, 30 September, at this year’s IT&CMA that opens in Bangkok Tuesday.

Seoul Metropolitan Government is a repeat host for the networking lunch for buyers.

Seoul Tourism Organisation executive director MICE division, Maureen O’Crowley, expressed confidence that backed by the success at previous years’ events the show would deliver tangible results.

Vietnam’s tourism up 4%

NAY PYI TAW, 30 January 2015: Vietnam’s tourism closed 2014 with a record 7.87 million tourists representing an increase of 4% over 2013.

Details of the country’s tourism performance were released by Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Wednesday, during the ATF media briefings.

Officials noted that 49% of all tourist arrivals came from the Northeast and another 19% from Southeast Asia.

Cambodia mulls travel show

NAY PYI TAW, 30 January 2015: Cambodia says it may host its first ever travel trade show, later this year, according to Ministry of Tourism’s deputy director of marketing and promotions, Prak Vuthy.

He made the comment on the sidelines of a ministry presentation to the media attending ATF, Wednesday.

“The plan to organise a travel mart, 17 to 19 September, in the capital, Phnom Penh… it will focus on Cambodia’s travel content, but it will also be open to exhibitors from other ASEAN nations,” he said.
