BANGKOK, 19 October 2017: Does tourism promotion have any role in resolving complex religious, political, socio-economic challenges such as currently being experienced by the Rohingya people and the Myanmar authorities?

Can tourism provide solutions for the long-term settlement of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslim refugees crossing over the border from Myanmar to Bangladesh?

I believe not. Also with reference to the travel media (as opposed to mass media) they promote tourism, which provides a sustainable, trickle-down stream of revenue to the people, particularly the poor. Read more

Security stepped up in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 5 October 2017: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered tighter security measures before and during the Royal Cremation of the revered late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

More than 11 million Thais from around the country have paid their respects in person to  their late King at the Grand Palace over the past year, according to official figures.

The premier had assigned the military, police, the National Security Council and the National Intelligence Agency to prepare the funeral security plan. Read more

BANGKOK, 3 October 2017: October marks the start of Thailand’s high season and most people visiting Thailand will stop for a few days in Bangkok.

Vsitors should be aware that during October the country will pay homage to the late King Bhumiphol Adulyadej. The state funeral will take place 24 to 29 October 2017 with the actual cremation on the 26 October.

The Tripadvisor executive presented an important message for all digital marketeers, covering travel and tourism related businesses touching on the impact of user generated content and online reviews, as well as the importance of online reputation management.

Thailand’s rail plans speed up

BANGKOK, 28 August 2017: Thailand’s government  approved a draft contract for the  construction and design of the first phase of the country’s high-speed railway project with China, last week.

The first stage of the  high-speed railway will link Bangkok and the northeast province of Nakhon Ratchasima and is scheduled to be operational by 2021.

The Thai cabinet and the National Legislative Assembly, have approved the first phase of the new railway and once all phases are completed, it will offer a fast train link from Yunnan province in China to the eastern seaboard on the Gulf of Thailand and eventually to Malaysia and Singapore. Bangkok’s monorail makes progress

BANGKOK, 21 August 2017: Bombardier Transportation has announced two contracts for its Innovia Monorail 300 system for two mass rapid transit lines in Thailand.

The contracts are with the Northern Bangkok Monorail Co Ltd (NBM) and the Eastern Bangkok Monorail Co Ltd (EBM).

They will be responsible for the turnkey construction and 30-year concession of the new, elevated lines, which will improve the daily commute for over 400,000 people. Read more
