TAT speed dates wellness specialists

BANGKOK, 4 September 2018: Specialist travel buyers in the health and wellness sectors joined a one-day trade meet, last week, organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Wellness travel providers, mainly from Bangkok, networked with 73 buyers from Asia, Australia, Russia, the UK and the Middle East.

TAT’s deputy governor of international marketing — Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas Srisuda Wanapinyosak opened the “Amazing Thailand Health & Wellness Trade Meet 2018.”

Most of the buyers came from important Asian market where there is already demand for Thailand’s health and wellness products. They included China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam, all top performing source markets generating health, wellness and medical tourism for Thailand.

The 30 Thai companies that participated in the event came from hospitals, cosmetic clinics, anti-aging enterprises and a single Muay Thai boxing facility.

Apart from Bangkok they came from Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phuket, and Nonthaburi provinces.

A well-respected study of Thailand’s medical tourism industry, by Anchana na Ranong for the WHO showed value in terms of revenue was estimated at between THB59 million to THB111 billion, or 0.4% of GDP. The study estimated around 450,000 foreigners visited Thailand for medical treatment.

Thailand, Singapore and India are the dominant players in medical tourism accounting for almost 90% of the business of all Asian countries.

Global Wellness Institute’s latest figures showed the entire wellness industry generated globally USD3.7 trillion in 2015.
