CLIA launches seminar at ITB Asia

-

SINGAPORE, 17 September 2018: Ocean cruising is one of the fastest growing leisure travel segments globally and is now picking up steam in Asia, says Cruise Lines International Association Asia.

CLIA presented an update of the cruise market in Asia ahead of its inaugural participation at ITB Asia this October.

It confirmed that most Asian markets such as Singapore, Indonesia, India, mainland China and Malaysia registered double-digit year-on-year growth in cruise passenger numbers.

2018 will see 38 cruise lines deployed and more ships in Asian waters, CLIA reported claiming that compared with 2017, the number of large vessels with a capacity of 2,000 to 3,500 passengers would increase by almost 50%.

This trend will be followed by small, upscale ships with a capacity of under 750 passengers increasing by 20%.

Southeast Asia, is expected to see a significant 20% increase in port calls this year due to the deployment of more ships.

The increased inventory of cruise itineraries coupled with Asians preference to cruise close to home in Asia, means that travel agents in Southeast Asia will enjoy the potential to grow their earnings from cruise sales.

CLIA is organising a two-hour cruise seminar offering tips for the trade at ITB Asia in Singapore to assist travel agents to sell cruise.

Partnering with cruise lines, the two-hour seminar “Navigating the Cruise Industry Towards Greater Profits” will highlight the latest trends and share tips on how travel agents can use the different cruise brands’ selling points to on-sell to potential Asian cruise passengers.

“CLIA’s mandate is to provide essential training for Asia travel agents. As the cruise industry continues to grow further in Asia, we look forward to partnering with our cruise lines members and hosting a meaningful seminar for Asia travel agents at ITB Asia 2018,” said CLIA Australasia & Asia managing director Joel Katz .

The eight participating cruise brands are Costa Cruises, Dream Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Royal Caribbean International and Uniworld Boutique River Cruises.

The cruise seminar will hosted 19 October 1130 to 1330 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. CLIA will also be at ITB Asia booth P25 from 17 to 19 October.
