GEORGE TOWN, 28 August 2018:  Travels sales will hit MYR30 million during the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents travel fair that will be held in Penang 28 to 30 September.

MATTA is eyeing an increase in sales turnover of around MYR10 million for the upcoming MATTA Fair due to be held at Setia SPICE Arena.

MATTA’s immediate past president, Datuk Hamzah Rahmat, was quoted by the national news agency Bernama saying a larger shows at a new venue should generate sales turnover of around MYR30 million.

The biannual show promotes both domestic and international travel with a strong turnout of national tourist offices from Asia, plus tour operators selling tours to Japan, Taiwan and South Korea,

The MATTA Fair will shift from Penang’s Straits Quay Convention Centre to Setia SPICE Arena to provide space for more exhibition booths.

MATTA’s past president estimated there would be 50 more exhibition booths compared to the previous fair and the association was eyeing a greater sales turnover during the fair.

“We believe with more exhibitors, a 50% increase in sales turnover is possible to achieve,” he told reporters.

Sales turnover from the previous Penang MATTA Fair has increased from MYR17 million in 2017 to MYR20 million earlier this year.

The Penang show is an off-shoot of the national MATTA Fair, Malaysia’s largest consumer travel fair that attracts more than 100,000 visitors in Kuala Lumpur.

The national MATTA Fair will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, 7 to 9 September.

Held twice annually, the March 2018 national show generated travel sales of MYR210 million with more than 4,500 trade participants.

Out of 175 travel firms exhibiting, Apple Vacations was the largest with 48 booths.  Sabah Tourism was the largest state tourism office with 16 booths, while Japan and Korea both had 24 booths each.
