Giving Lombok shelters

-

DENPASAR, 30 August 2018: Infinity Holidays and Buffalo Tours will build 150 short-term and 40 permanent shelters on the devastated island of Lombok where 80% of structures were damaged or destroyed by recent earthquakes.

By funding and green lighting the project immediately, help will arrive within days, the tour companies stated.

Buffalo Tours country manager Indonesia, Peter Christensen, elaborated on the project: “We have committed nearly USD80,000 so we could build the shelters immediately instead of a fundraiser where help would be too late getting to those in need.

“Lombok has always welcomed our travellers so it’s time we repaid that kindness.  Our long-standing motto is ‘Changing Lives Through Travel’ and this is an opportunity to put action behind those words.”

The project will be expanded as more of Buffalo Tours’ partners join to supply shelters and dig wells in Lombok.

Two types of anti-quake shelters will be built.

Temporary, single-family shelters will cost USD240 per unit.  Semi-permanent, multi-family shelters will cost USD108 per unit.

Once enough shelters have been built, any remaining funds will be used to dig wells for access to clean drinking water.

To ensure 100% of the proceeds reach Indonesians in need, Infinity Holidays and Buffalo Tours will cover all overhead costs for Project Shelter. Buffalo’s partners, and other interested parties, can each out to [email protected] if they wish to join the relief effort.

Founded in 1994, Buffalo Tours provides destination management services in 11 countries throughout Asia.  Each year Buffalo Tours provides local experiences for more than 100,000 travellers, living by the promise of ‘Changing Lives Through Travel.’
