YANGON, 16 July 2018: Yangon’s iconic landmark Shwedagon Pagoda will undergo replastering of its golden sphere starting this October.
During the six-month project the view of the country’s most famous pagoda will be obscured for photographs.
Commenting on the renovation, a leading inbound tour operator in Myanmar, Asian Trails, said the renovation was planned to take place from October this year to March 2019
The main stupa will be covered in scaffolding that will completely obstruct the view of the 105-metre high stupa and spire from all angles.
According to a statement issued by pagoda officials, the starting date of the gold plate offering ceremony at the Shwedagon Pagoda would be announced in September.
Once religious ceremonies to consecrate materials have been completed work will begin on the renovations.
