Myanmar considers MTF 2020 venues

-

NAKHON PHANOM, 3 July 2018: Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office’s executive director, Jens Thraenhart, is already floating ideas on where to host the forum in 2020.

Myanmar has confirmed it will take up its option to host the Mekong Tourism Forum in May 2020.

It will be Thraenhart’s last MTF as the office’s executive director.

Talking to TTR Weekly at the close of this year’s event in Nakhon Phanom, he admitted he was hoping Inle Lake’s tourism community would put their name forward to host the event.

“It would be ideal to showcase village participation in the forum in the way we have done here in Nakhon Phanom and Luang Prabang in 2017.”

There would be plenty of support for Inle Lake to host the MTF in 2020, following a panel presentation on Mekong Collection Showcases by Yin Myo Su, at last week’s event.

Heading community and heritage projects she is managing director of Inle Princess Group and founder of Inle Heritage foundation.

“Inle Lake faces enormous challenges, but communities around the lake are passionate about economical development that respects heritage, art and culture,” she told the forum.
