Food fuels thoughts of travel

MUMBAI, 19 July 2018: Food is a deciding factor for most Indian travellers according to the latest Booking.com findings.

Booking.com released findings from its latest global research ‘Taste of Travel’ which showed that 67% of Indian travellers pick their travel destination based on the cuisine and food choices it offers.

Everyone agrees that food is a major consideration when picking a destination, but the latest trends show food and cooking are now a major holiday themes.

The study highlighted that around 49% of Indian travellers plan to take a dedicated food tourism trip in 2018.

The ‘Taste of Travel’ research was commissioned by Booking.com and independently conducted among a sample of 56,727 adult respondents across 30 different markets worldwide.

The results mentioned in this report focus on Indian travellers only, which consisted of 2,023 respondents.

To participate in this survey, respondents had to be 18 years of age or older, had to have travelled at least once in 2017, be planning at least one trip for 2018 and either the primary decision maker or involved in the decision making of their travel.

Booking.com country manager India, Ritu Mehrotra said: “Food plays a huge role in our travel choices and tasting local and street food is a great way for travellers to really get immersed in the local culture and community”.

For international travellers planning a trip to India, the research identified some of the top destinations in India to experience local cuisines and delicacies.

Kolkata and Amritsar emerge as the top destinations in India for street food followed by Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Top cities for Indian cuisine dining experiences are: New Delhi; Chennai; Mumbai; Jaipur and Candolim.
