TG selects a president

-

BANGKOK, 22 May 2018: After a wait of two years, Thai Airways International said on Monday it has identified a new president subject to salary negotiations with the airline’s board

The airline’s board of directors has assigned the President’s Remuneration Subcommittee to negotiate employment conditions and remunerations, before presenting the final employment proposal to the board.

The airline issued a statement Monday on the selection confirming the board has recommended the recruitment of Sumeth Damrongchaitham, 53.

Sumeth Damrongchaitham

He is listed under the Ministry of Finance as president state-owned property manager Dhanarak Asset Development Co Ltd

A Google search also identifies him as chief operating officer of music and entertainment group GMM Grammy PCL, reporting directly to the president.

The selection if successful will end a two-year search that started when Charamporn Jothikastira retired at 60, the compulsory retirement age for employees of state-owned firms.

Since then Aviation Business Unit vice-president, Usanee Sangsingkea, has filled the role as the airline’s acting CEO, while the airline sought to find a replacement.

While the airline reported an operating profit in the first quarter of this year, it still represented a 14 % fall in net profit.

  1. Wishing Tg all the best of luck, but don’t understand why the search is not for an airline CEO with a proven track record regardless of nationality, this would give shareholders more assurance that bottom line and service quality and safety tandards would be adhered to quickly. Now most likely the incumbent will need a few years to familiarize himself with the business with all its intracacies. Anyway good luck!
