Volcano disrupts flights

KUALANAMU, 9 April 2018 – AirAsia reports that several flights to and from Medan (Kualanamu) were affected by the eruption of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra at the weekend.

The airline alerted passengers that they would be notified by email and SMS of the flight status on the route if the eruptions continue to impact on flight schedules.

Flights were disrupted after the late Friday evening volcanic eruption.

The airline also recommended that passengers should update their contact details at www.airasia.com to ensure that they are notified of any updates if there are postponements or changes to flight schedules.

Passengers that were booked on flights that were cancelled can move their travel dates fir the same route within 14 days without additional cost and subject to seat availability.

They can also request the airline to retain the value of the fare in a credit account for future travel with AirAsia. The online credit account must be redeemed within 90 calendar days from the date of issuance;

A full refund is also an option.

Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra, erupted late Friday evening (Singapore time) spewing volcanic ash column up to 5 km in the sky.

The eruption followed months of calm on the highest peak in North Sumatra. The volcano first erupted in 2010 after being dormant for 400 years and has remained active ever since with deadly eruptions in 2014 and 2016 claiming at least 20 lives.
