Cambodian airlines play GDS catchup

-

SINGAPORE – 3 April 2018: Cambodia’s two startup airlines, Lanmei Airlines and JC International Airlines, have signed up with Sabre’s global distribution system to give them access to travel agency sales, worldwide.

Both airlines have been relying on their website for bookings as well as tapping local travel agencies mainly in Phnom Penh.

However, their websites are not very reassuring for consumers who want to make direct bookings. They lack information and a user-friendly approach to online payment.

Most of their travel agency sales are locally driven and beyond Cambodia there is very little awareness of what the two airlines have to offer.

The deal with Sabre, a B2B channel exclusively for travel agencies, gives the two airlines wider access to travel agencies, worldwide, that subscribe to Sabre’s booking terminals. Sabre offers a comprehensive inventory of airline fares globally and a mechanism for agencies to settle payments and issue tickets to their clients.

Subscribing to Sabre’s GDS, immediately gives the two Cambodian airline access to travel agents in neighbouring countries who can book their customers on flights, arrange payment through IATA’s Bank Settlement Plan.

This will be important in Singapore and Bangkok where Sabre has a strong following of travel agencies using its GDS.

Cambodia has seven airlines based in the country, but the challenge is go beyond  the local ticketing agents to tap international travel agency bookings through one of the three dominant GDS channels, Sabre, Travelport and Amadeus.

Lanmei Airlines deputy general manager commercial department, Eric Li and, JC International Airlines, Cambodia, CEO Tang Chun signed the deals with Sabre.
