Hoteliers host fundraiser for education

-

PHUKET, THAILAND:  Phuket hoteliers will repeat last year’s benefit bash that raised THB 4 million to provide scholarships for students living on the popular tourist island.

Now in its second year, the Phuket Hoteliers’ Annual Benefit dinner is organised by The Phuket Hotels Association with the objective of raising funds to support students.

The non-profit group of hoteliers focuses on promoting a positive image for Phuket, while supporting community-based projects particularly those linked to education.

This year’s bash will be hosted, 1900 to 2400, Saturday 28 April, at the Latitude Marquee, Laguna Phuket.

Guests are encouraged to dress in the Greay Gatsby era to give the event a “fancy dress ball” fun image.

The event will raise funds to support 20 plus hospitality scholarships and internships for local residents.

Last year, the PHAB gala dinner drew 300 guests and raised over THB 4 million (USD 130,000) for the scholarship fund. This year, the organisers are planning for 400 guests and hope to surpass THB 4 million in support.

Apart from cocktails, dining and entertainment, a silent auction targeting is the key fundraiser.  All prizes are sourced from hotel members and interested parties and corporations, keen to support student looking to make a career in hospitality.

The organisers pledge to use all proceeds to pay for the education of at least 20 young scholars and trainees from Phuket, who would otherwise be unable to fund their education.

The training will last from three to four years and cover vocational and degree courses, as well as overseas learning.

The association hopes that the students receiving educational grants will eventually be recruited and rise through the hotel industry’s ranks to become managers, chefs and other key personnel for the island’s tourism sector.

Phuket Hotels Association president, Anthony Lark, commented: “By donating to a good cause and sponsoring this event, companies will not only support the local community, they can also raise their profile and connect with the key customers working in the island’s influential travel and tourism industry.”

The Phuket Hotels Association has 70 member hotels.
