PG flies Chiang Mai to Hanoi

BANGKOK , 6 February 2018: Bangkok Airways will launch a daily flight linking Chiang Mai and Hanoi, 25 March, a move that will be welcomed by the city’s residents and visitors.

The first direct flight between Chiang Mai and Hanoi will have a travek time of two hours and five minutes for an air distance of 766 km.

The daily service will use a 70 seat ATR72-500/600  aircraft at least initially until traffic demand justifies the faster and larger Airbus A320 .

The outbound flight PG995 will depart Chiang Mai International Airport at 0955 and arrive in Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport) at 1200. The inbound flight PG996 will depart Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport) at 1245 and arrive in Chiang Mai International Airport at 1450.

Bookings are already open.  A check of Skyscanner showed the best one-way fare on Bangkok Airways was pegged at THB3,681.  It’s the only airline offering a direct flight between the two cities, but other airlines offer one-stop connecting services via Bangkok.

A  fare check on Bangkok Airways’ website for travel 31 March flagged a one-way web promo fare at THB2,190, but that was before tax and surcharges. The bottom line one-way fare was THB3,890, around THB 200 more than the lowest fare quoted on Skyscanner.com for the same flight.

Thai AirAsia sells a Chiang Mai-Hanoi service via Bangkok at a one-way fare of THB3,915 with a flight time of five hours and 45 minutes. THAI sells a one-way fare of THB5,943 (flight time four hours and 10 minutes) on the same routing.
