Marriott expands Fairfield in India

-

NEW DELHI, 9 February 2018: Marriott International signed a five-hotel conversion deal with India’s SAMHI Hotels that will incorporate the company’s properties under the Fairfield by Marriott brand.

The Marriott brand gains 583 new rooms to its existing portfolio, making Fairfield by Marriott one of its strongest in India.

The five hotels are located in Chennai, Pune, Goa, Delhi and Bengaluru.

“With the conversion of these five hotels to Fairfield by Marriott, SAMHI Hotels will now have 14 hotels managed by Marriott International,” said Marriott International’s chief development officer in Asia-Pacific, Paul Foskey.

Fairfield by Marriott is positioned in the difficult to define “upper-midscale” segment that on the rarely used scale of three to five stars would have been rated three.

The Fairfield by Marriott brand made its debut in India 2013 and in 2017 spread to Nepal. There are 10 operational Fairfield Hotels in South Asia and an additional 13 in the pipeline, including the five conversions with SAMHI. It will give the brand 23 Fairfield by Marriott hotels in the region.

Fairfield by Marriott was introduced in 1987 to fill a gap in the industry’s rapidly growing moderate-tier segment.
