SINGAPORE, 12 January 2018: Jetstar Asia achieved eighth place among the world’s most punctual airlines and the second most punctual low-cost airline according to OAG data covering 2017.

The latest recognition for punctuality follows Jetstar Asia being named the only airline in Asia Pacific to achieve a five-star rating for punctuality in October 2017.

OAG released its latest Punctuality League rankings for 2018 last week.

Out of 400 airlines checked, Air Baltic topped the on-time performance ranking, worldwide, followed by Hongkong Airways in second place.

In eighth place, Jetstar Asia was the highest placed airlines based in Southeast Asia, ahead of Singapore Airlines in 13th place.  Jetstar had improved its ranking from 14th in the previous annual ranking.

Of the top 250 low-cost carriers, worldwide, Jetstar Asia was ranked second for on-time performance with a rating of 85.05%.

Vueling Airlines in Spain achieved the highest OTP score (85.25%) of all low-cost airlines studied by OAG.

There were three other Asian low-cost airlines on the top 20 list. Thai AirAsia crept into the top 20 LCC list for the first time at 19th place with an on-time performance of 74.48%. AirAsia India, in 17th place, achieved an OTP of 74.85% and Indigo in 9th place scored an OTP of 81.22%.

The rankings are based on 57 million flight records using full-year data from 2017 for the world’s largest airlines and airports. Being ‘on time’ is defined as flights arriving no more than 15 minutes after the scheduled timing.

In October 2017, OAG released its standings for on-time performance for airlines and airports and announced that Jetstar Asia was the only airline in Asia Pacific among 390 airlines across the globe to achieve a five-star rating for punctuality.

In that report, only 14 airlines achieved a five-star rating, of which, eight were full-service carriers and six low-cost carriers.
