Double deck buses on tour

DANANG, 17 July 2017: Danang officially launched its open-top double-deck bus tour, last week, to improve the sightseeing experience for visitors.

Local media reported the city bus tour is being operated in co-operation with the Empire Group. The hop-on-and-off tour will attract independent travellers who have not pre-booked tours.

The first batch of 12 open-top buses will start services this month at CocoBay – Danang’s largest coastal entertainment and hospitality complex. In 2012, the city introduced battery-powered vehicles for tourists to explore coastal destinations as a promotion for environmentally friendly public vehicle use.

The open-top double-deck bus project was jointly developed with local vehicle manufacturer, Truong Hai. The buses will operate in both Danang and Hoi An, the report said.

Danang is the main gateway to explore the central region’s heritage icons, including Phong Nha-Ke Bang in Quang Binh, the UNESCO-recognised world heritage Hue, Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary and world biosphere reserve Cham Islands in Quang Nam province.

Over 3.3 million tourists, including 1.2 million foreigners, visited the city in the first six months of this year, a 33.2% growth. Last year, the city hosted 5.6 million tourists.

The first double-deck bus to ferry tourists around Hanoi  on sightseeing tours started its trial run in the city at the end of last month.

There is a plan in place to deploy double-deck buses in seven cities and provinces to help tourism grow. They are Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang cities, and Quang Nam, Thua Thien-Hue, Lam Dong and Kien Giang provinces. The trial period will run for five years.
