HO CHI MINH CITY, 18 May 2017: Vietnam’s tourism industry projects the country will welcome 4 million Chinese tourists by the end of this year more than a third of the forecasted 11.5 million tourist arrivals for 2017.

Saigon Times media reported that Chinese tourist arrivals to Vietnam increased rapidly and this year possibly rising to 4 million visitors, when compared with 2.7 million in 2016. It was quoting figures released by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

Chinese arrivals in 2016 accounted for 27% of the total number of international tourist arrivals to Vietnam. This year’s outlook could see Chinese tourist arrivals dominating market share at 35%.

VNAT is working with popular destinations such as Quang Ninh, Danang and Khanh Hoa to find ways to improve tour quality and ensure travel agencies deliver the content they have advertised and promised Chinese tourists.

The agency will also organise promotions in China to boost travel demand.

VNAT will organise roadshow to promote Vietnam’s tourism in Nanning, Fuzhou, Nanjing and Hefei, this month.

The roadshows in China are part of the national tourism promotion programme and should give the travel industry an opportunity to expand their business through  Chinese travel enterprises.

The most popular Vietnamese destinations chosen by Chinese tourists are Hanoi, Halong, and Ninh Binh in the north; Danang, Hoi An, Hue and Nha Trang in the central region; and Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc in the south, the report said.

Last year, Vietnam attracted 10,012,735 overall international tourists increasing 26.0% over 2015 (7,943,651).

During the first four months of this year, tourist arrivals reached 4,284,130 up 30.3%.
