Mega incentive meets in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU, 12 May 2017: The arrival of the biggest incentive group from China this week shows that Sabah is ready to stage large scale events, Sabah Tourism Board officials reported.

The 3,500 delegates from JM Top Achievers China arrived  in Sabah over a three-day period this week and are staying at 11 hotels around the city.

When opening the seminar at UMS, the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said, close to 3 million Chinese tourists have visited Sabah since 1997.

According to STB, this year’s forecast shows a potential average of 33,000 arrivals from China monthly.

Photos show Masidi and CEO of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCeb) Datuk Zulkefli Haji Sharif who were guests of Thursday’s beach gala dinner held at Shangri-la Rasa Ria Resort. JM Group Executive Director Qiu Wei Joe and JM delegates were treated to a sunset beach party, featuring high-end entertainment and a fireworks display.

New direct flights connecting China to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) have been introduced every year. During the last six months, new and additional flights from Wuhan, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Fuzhou brought in a total of 79 flights from China weekly.

“Sabah is embarking on a course that will give it serious conference business following the completion of the Sabah International Convention Centre soon. An estimated RM31.8 million economic impact is expected to flow into tourism in Sabah,” said Masidi.

“STB will be targeting incentive groups from China as it has a huge potential because of the many large corporations there. STB is already working on enticing them to come. We are expecting more Chinese incentives this year such as Perfect (China) and Babycare,” added Masidi.
