Chinese launches Cambodian airline

PHNOM PENH, 28 February 2017: JC International Airlines, a Chinese-backed airline, owned by a conglomerate in Yunnan province, is almost ready to launch Cambodia’s newest airline.

Phnom Penh Post reported the airline will launch its first services from its home-base in Phnom Penh, 17 March, once its air operator’s certificate is issued.

The airline’s production manager, Cheav Kirirom, was quoted saying the new airline would serve domestic routes, flying between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Read more

Air France deals to Europe

BANGKOK, 28 February 2017: Air France launches promotional fares in premium economy class to selected destinations in Europe, March through to 30 November, this year.

The promotion starts with a roundtrip fare, inclusive of taxes and surcharges, ex-Bangkok at THB51,170 to Amsterdam.

Fares to France are: THB53,420 Nice; THB54,705 Bordeaux; and THB57,490 Paris. Read more

Thai hotels face stiff competition

BANGKOK, 28 February 2017: Kasikorn Research Centre estimates Thailand’s hotel sector will generate THB560 to THB574 billion this year in gross revenue, an increase of 3.7% to 5.5% year-on-year, despite growing competition.

The bank’s think-tank  said competition in the hotel business continued to heighten in 2016, with more hotels in the pipeline.

“Now, as existing hotel operators carefully weigh their moves, new entrants venture into the market through mergers and acquisitions, bringing in new investment.” Read more

Vietnam opens ASEAN standard toilet

HO CHI MINH CITY, 28 February 2017: An automatic toilet cabin has been located in downtown Ho Chi Minh City in an effort to raise the standard of public toilets in the southern Vietnamese city.

Local media reported the city’s People’s Committee in District 1 introduced the automatic toilet cabin, last week, the first in a pilot scheme that aims to offer facilities that are compatible with the ASEAN Public Toilet Standard (APTS).

The USD10,909 toilet was installed on the sidewalk at number 116 on Nguyen Du Street. Read more

AccorHotels names digital head

SINGAPORE, 28 February 2017: AccorHotels announces the appointment of Maud Bailly as chief digital officer, effective 3 April.

Bailly will head digital, distribution, sales, and Information systems, and will be a member of the company’s executive committee.

Bailly, 38 years old, was a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and prior to joining AccorHotels she worked in the French Prime Minister’s Office. Read more

SINGAPORE, 28 February 2017: India’s Radhanagar beach on an island in the Andaman Sea emerged as the top rated beach in the region by TripAdvisor reviewers.

Released Monday, TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for Beaches in Asia identified Radhanagar Beach, on Havelock Island, Andaman and Nicobar in India as the Asia’s number one beach based on reviews.

Two Indian beaches made it to the top 10 list along with a beach in Sri Lanka, but Southeast Asia dominated with seven of Asia’s top-ranked beaches. Read more

Bangkok Air expands codeshares

BANGKOK, 28 February 2017: Bangkok Airways will sign codeshare agreements with another four Asian carriers, this year, following a recent accord with China’s Xiamen Airlines.

Adding more codeshare agreements was highlighted in the airline’s ‘business outlook and direction’ section of the airline’s financial report for 2016 that was made public mid-February.

Codeshare agreements play an integral part in the airline’s long-term marketing strategy to the extent the airline has accumulated partnerships with 22 airlines worldwide that feed considerable traffic to the PG network across Asia. Read more
