IHG to manage Penang hotel

SINGAPORE, 31 October 2016: InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a management agreement with Exopuri Development Sdn Bhd to manage a new 288-room Holiday Inn & Suites in mainland Penang due to open in 2020.

The hotel will be located in the commercial district of Prai, between the major bridges connecting mainland Penang and Penang Island.

The transfer time to most major commercial areas in Prai will be around 15 minutes commute. A visit to Penang Island’s  Georgetown, will take around 30 minutes by car.

inside no 6When it opens in four years, Holiday Inn & Suites Penang Prai will be the tallest building in the area with around 35 levels, enjoying high visibility from the North-South Highway, which connects the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, with Penang and other northern cities.

IHG vice president, operations, Southeast Asia and Korea, Leanne Harwood, said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with Exopuri Development Sdn Bhd to expand our presence in Penang state … it continues to experience growth in visitor arrivals and  gain traction as a regional business hub for international companies.”

Holiday Inn & Suites Penang Prai will feature four restaurants and bars: an all day dining, a lobby lounge, a pool bar and a rooftop sky bar.  It will also have 12 meeting rooms including a ballroom.

IHG currently has five hotels open in Malaysia across three brands: InterContinental, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, including one in Penang. In the next three to five years the company will open a further seven hotels, including the first Hotel Indigo to enter the country.
