Sihanoukville recruits lifeguards

SIHANOUKVILLE, 31 August 2016: Sihanouk provincial authorities plan to recruit 30 lifeguards to help make the province’s seven beaches safer for swimmers.

Phnom Penh Post reported the move follow recent reports of tourists drowning.

The latest casualties involved a South Korean, a 40-year-old father and his four-year-old son, who drowned at Otres Beach one of the most popular beaches near Sihanoukville town, last Friday. Read more

Nha Trang introduces code of conduct

KHANH HOA, 31 August 2016: The People’s Committee of Nha Trang City has released a behave better code of conduct for tourists and travel related organisations to make the city more attractive.

Local media quoted the committee vice chairman, Nguyen Sy Khanh, saying the code of conduct aims to transform the city into a “civilised tourist city.”

The code defines regulations on appropriate conduct at all levels of the tourism experience including local authorities, individuals and organisations working in tourism as well as tourists. KAL offers low fares to Japan

BANGKOK, 31 August 2016: Korean Air offers a “Japan Early Saver” promotion for travel to Japan until the end of May next year.

Departing Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket, the promotion sets a roundtrip fare, inclusive of taxes and surcharges, starting at THB17,700 to Fukuoka in economy class.

A THB19,350 fare is on offer to Sapporo and THB22,360 to Aomori. Read more

Tourico partners with Nordic Choice

LONDON, 31 August 2016: Tourico Holidays, a wholesale travel brokerage company, announced, Tuesday, it has recruited Nordic Choice Hotels as a supplier for hotel content in the Nordic region.

Tourico will now sell Nordic Choice’s inventory – consisting of 187 hotels and more than 32,000 rooms across five countries – to its 4,900 distribution clients.

Over the last year, Tourico has seen a 20% increase in inbound hotel bookings in the Nordic region (Denmark Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).  Read more

Mekong Forum opens in Khon Kaen

KHON KAEN, 31 August 2016: The 2016 Mekong Forum opened yesterday in Khon Kaen province, attracting a record turnout of officials from government and private organisation interested in developing trade within the Greater Mekong Subregion.

Mekong Institute executive director, Watcharas Leelawath, chaired the opening session attended by development officers, policymakers, social enterprises, and academics.

Emirates expands SEA network

DUBAI, 31 August 2016: Emirates is flying a new daily service from Dubai to Yangon in Myanmar and onwards to Hanoi in Vietnam.

The new service uses a Boeing 777-300. For travellers resident in Yangon it offers a one-stop service through to Europe with a connecting flight stop in Dubai.

Previously, passengers in the two cities would have travelled to Bangkok to connect with an Emirates services. Read more

Tributes will focus on former ministers, hoteliers, tour operators, both expatriates and citizens of the 10 nation ASEAN bloc, who played critical roles in building travel and tourism.

The “ASEAN Travel & Tourism Hall of Fame,” project will be one of the official projects to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN. Read more

Aeroflot back in black

MOSCOW, 31 August 2016: Russia’s flagship carrier Aeroflot said Monday it had piloted a return to profit after reining in its costs and enjoyed an ascent in passenger numbers among its company airlines.

The majority state-controlled company posted a net profit of 2.5 billion rubles (34 million euros, USD38 million) for the first half the year, compared to a loss of 3.5 billion rubles a year earlier.

Russia’s aviation industry has struggled in the face of the country’s economic crisis caused by falling oil prices and Western sanctions imposed over Moscow’s actions in Ukraine hitting travellers’ wallets. Read more
