MADRID, 30 June 2016: Amadeus won “Cloud Innovator of the Year” by open source solutions provider Red Hat, for a project it describes as providing “a wonderful example of what is possible with open source.”
The commendation follows the successful launch of Amadeus Cloud Services last June, supported by an open source project Amadeus developed in collaboration with Red Hat on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
The Red Hat Innovation Awards honour customers and partners for their outstanding and innovative use of Red Hat solutions, and Amadeus was recognised, earlier this week, at the 2016 Red Hat Summit, in San Francisco.
“We are very proud to receive this award, recognising how Amadeus Cloud Services is shaping the future of travel through technology,” said Amadeus vice president architecture, quality and governance, Dietmar Fauser.
“We have publicly adopted an industry-defining cloud strategy to help our customers achieve rapid time to market, better scalability and improved performance.”
“Through Amadeus Cloud Services, our solutions are also available to run on our own global private cloud, as well as on multiple public cloud providers depending on customer choice and business need.”
Red Hat has been working closely with Amadeus on various levels based on a common technological vision and goals.
Over the last year, Amadeus Airline Cloud Availability was developed using Amadeus Cloud Services technology. This innovative solution solves the challenge of ever-increasing flight search volumes.
Airline ‘look-to-book’ ratios – average number of search requests before a flight booking was actually made – were previously as low as 10:1. Today, they can run as high as 1,000:1.
Amadeus Airline Cloud Availability was successfully piloted by Lufthansa in 2015, and was able to absorb a 20 fold increase in transaction volumes.
Amadeus is also using Amadeus Cloud Services as the foundation for its collaboration with InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) to develop a next-generation Guest Reservation System (GRS).
For the 2016 Red Hat Innovation Awards, nominations were received with judges selecting one winning project in each of six categories that exemplified the most innovative achievements used to answer complex IT challenges with Red Hat solutions.
