Horrific pack attackers arrested

HUA HIN, 29 April 2016:  Four Thai men have now been arrested for the brutal attack on a British family in Hua Hin during Songkran, while the identities of the victims have also been revealed, Thai Visa.Com reported earlier today.

The victims have been named as Lewis Owen, 68, his wife Rosemary Owen, in her sixties, and their son Lewis John Owen, 43. They are believed to be from Wales.

On Thursday, a photograph was released to local media showing Rosemary recovering in her hospital bed, pictured alongside officials, who hospital staff claimed were for the Thailand Authority of Thailand. Read more

TUI sells Hotelbeds

LONDON, 29 April 2016: Worldwide tour giant TUI is selling off its Hotelbeds Group for €1.2 billion as the world’s largest tour operator ditches non-core assets, the Financial Times reported late Thursday.

The FT said UK based buyout firm, Cinven and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, have each agreed to buy 50% of the company in a transaction that is expected to be completed in September, subject to regulatory approval.

Hotelbeds is the world’s largest B2B bed-bank, offering rooms to travel agencies and airlines, worldwide. Read more

Shaheen Air to fly Bangkok

BANGKOK, 29 April 2016: Pakistan’s Shaheen Air will start flights to Bangkok in Thailand, 20 May, connecting the Thai capital with Karachi and Lahore.

The airline plans to operate twice weekly services on both the Karachi – Bangkok and  Lahore – Bangkok routes using Airbus A330s.

It will compete head-on with Pakistan International Airlines that has served Pakistan-Thailand routes since the early 1970s. Read more

Vietnam to focus on e-marketing

HANOI, 29 April 2016: Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has a budget to spend USD44,800 on e-marketing to increase Vietnam’s competitiveness in tourism.

Vietnam Investment Review quoted VNAT’s vice chairman, Ha Van Sieu, saying that e-marketing was an important tool to reach national tourism targets.

“In recent years, the application of digital technology, especially e-marketing, has made a positive impact on tourism.” Read more

Cambodia wants more flights from China

PHNOM PENH, 29 April 2016: Cambodia has asked China to ease the way for direct flights from southwestern Guizhou province to promote trade and tourism.

Khmer Times media claimed the Minister for the Office of the Council of Ministers Sok An made the request to the province’s Communist party secretary, Chen Minér, during a meeting in Phnom Penh, Monday.

“In order to increase Chinese tourists to Cambodia, we want to attract direct commercial flights from Guizhou to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap,” Sok An reported. Read more

BANGKOK, 29 April 2016: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau launched, earlier this week, a ‘Biz Thailand’ mobile application as an information channel for business event travellers.

TCEB’s Information Technology Department director, Sarita Chintakanond, said the new mobile application is part of the bureau digital marketing strategy to boost MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibition) business.

“The Biz Thailand mobile application, comes in two language versions Thai and English…it has been developed to provide easy access to Thai MICE industry via a smartphone.” Read more

CNTA shares tourism strategy with PATA

BANGKOK, 29 April 2016: China’s powerful, tourism agency CNTA says it will strengthen communications and cooperation with the Pacific Asia Travel Association and other international organisations to advance project related to regional tourism.

China National Tourism Administration chairman, Li Jinzao, made the comments during a meeting held with PATA CEO, Mario Hardy earlier this week in Beijing.

He said China’s tourism industry was shifting its tourism development mode from spot-based to region-based, which would see the industry advancing projects related to region-based tourism. Read more

Best Western opens on Palawan

The city is served by flights from Manila and is a 1.5 hours’ drive from the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Puerto Princesa Underground River.
