THAI keeps top spots in T+L awards

BANGKOK, 27 November 2015: Thai Airways International ranked in top places in three categories for the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2015.

The airline’s vice president of marketing development and customer service, Busaba Sangkawibha, said that THAI was proud to have been placed in the top 10 in three categories of the Travel + Leisure readers’ survey for the World’s Best Awards 2015. Read more

Mission to save wildlife

BANGKOK, 27 November 2015: Khiri Reach and partner organisations such as Wow Borneo, Asia Transpacific Journeys and Khiri Travel Indonesia have united to draw attention to the plight of orangutans and other wildlife whose habitats are being destroyed by annual forest and peat fires in Kalimantan, Borneo.

Tens of thousand forest fires were deliberately set by palm oil growers and major corporations in the paper pulp industry. Read more

Laos moves on UNESCO nomination

XIENG KHOUANG, 27 November 2015: Lao PDR’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism have been brainstorming a master plan that will lead to the nomination of the Plain of Jars as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lao News Agency reported the ministry brainstormed, last week, efforts to secure the World Heritage Site nomination for the site.

Protection efforts at the Plain of Jars in the past have been largely successful, however, implementation of the action plan for managing the Plain of Jars still needs to be submitted by the Lao government to UNESCO, the report said.

Amadeus adds remote hotels

Vietnam plans more airports

BA RIA-VUNG TAU, 27 November 2015: Vietnam will add a small airport in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province that will serve Ho Chi Minh City residents who head for the province’s beaches on short holiday breaks from the southern commercial capital.

Thanh Nien News reported the Vietnamese government is considering a new airport in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, as part of its transport infrastructure developments.

The top honour was the “Spa of the Year” award in the Southeast Asia and Pacific region.

As Thailand’s spas won four awards it was an even tie with China in terms of awards won by countries.
